A few bangers on this album, but overall wasn’t a complete listen for me

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Dec 16 2025

Spotify bio describes Dire Straits as “melancholy” and a I couldn’t agree more. It’s not a breakup album, it’s a grey rainy day, contemplative sound. Many of the songs on the album have a variety of instruments and solos, the music itself is great and I could probably listen to an instrumental or karaoke version of this album. As for the vocals, it’s not my cup of tea. The lyrics are vague and a bit cryptic at times and the lead singers voice often feels like he is more talking than singing and to me doesn’t have a great tune. As for individual songs, I was immediately drawn to Your Latest Trick and Ride across the River.

You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen
Dec 17 2025

I wrote that the Dire Straits album yesterday was melancholy, but this album puts that one to shame. I can only think of two situations to listen to this album, one could be a very dark moody cocktail party with this low in the background and easily talked over or when grieving the loss of a loved one. This album makes you want to hide in a dark corner and contemplate life, loss, and suffering. Cohens voice is deep and moody, which magnifies the dark mood of this album. The music is fine, and Cohen talks more than he sings. This wouldn’t be on my list of 1001 albums, but I can see how it may be on someone’s. This isn’t my cup of tea, but may have its place in someone’s collection.

Foo Fighters by Foo Fighters
Dec 18 2025

Love the foo fighters, but this is not one of their best albums IMO. Lots of different sounds on this one from grunge to 60s pop rock (think Beatles). Not an album I would probably buy

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Dec 21 2025

Really enjoyed this album, gave me Charlie Brown Christmas album vibes. Definitely would buy if I seen it out in the wild.

Queen Of Denmark by John Grant
Dec 22 2025

Not my vibe, lyrics were too weird and the music and style was to slow/melancholy. Hard Pass

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Dec 23 2025

It’s a fine album, I can listen to but wasn’t very interesting or impressive for me

Skylarking by XTC
Dec 24 2025

This album is pretty unique, and I didn’t hate it, but I also didn’t love it…. I listened to it a couple times, and the music is nice and the vocals are good but its just a little too out there for me.
