Elton John
4/5
1. Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding
I love the way this song builds, it's so cool. Auuuuugh the piano is beautiful.
Could kinda do w/o the synth but that's okay (especially at the beginning it's really piercing and annoying). The tempo change into like the lilty sound was a little interesting, still kept a nice groove though. The guitar solo makes my heart happy though.
Love the lyrical part, so like unusually happy for what the song seems like it's about. Classic Elton John stuff, honestly this songs would be so much more popular if it were two songs, cause most people don't have the patience for the beginning. But yeah, I get that isn't what music should be about. Also gotta say the second time Love Lies Bleeding lyrics came out it felt a little repetitive. Kinda want some more variation or something, repeating the chorus and same lines doesn't really match the vibe of the song.
7/10
Not revelatory, solid song, would recommend, wasn't good enough to make me smile.
2. Candle In The Wind
Nice, slow tempo, balances out the quick tempo of the other song, nice break. Nice twist on what my generation would call a classic slow song. Very good pace of song, 1:50 and I barely noticed. Nice message too I actually relate with this a lot, I am not good at making decisions, kind of a wake up call, I gotta make decisions and put my life in order.
7/10
Would have liked some more actually, but maybe I would have gotten bored, the message was cool and kind of needed.
3. Bennie And The Jets
I love this beginning it's so good. Makes me think of The Walters (at least the feel of the vocals), good band, would recommend them. Nice jazzy feel, it's really nice. I'm disappointed at myself for not listening to Elton John enough, he's actually got some really cool sides. Piano solo is peak, kinda want more, but I'm also a little bit of a jazz kid so I guess I'm biased. Kinda interesting there's always like this random synth coming through and other strange sound effects, I really don't like it, cause it's kinda to distract from the repetitiveness of the song, gah, I thought I was gonna like that one.
6/10
Weird synth sounds, did not match the vibe. I liked it otherwise though.
4. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Classic, this is one of the few Elton John songs I had already listened to. Gives off some sort of Beatles vibe, like Yellow Submarine type stuff. Love the classic background vocals, the aaaaaaahs really get me. Kind of nice message, leaving what you have been doing and going forward
8/10
Classic, nice message
5. This Song Has No Title
The meaning of this song is a little beyond me, I probably need to read the lyrics. One sec.
Kind of an interesting message, it seems like a story about learning through life, and getting prepared for death.
Seems like there is also some sort of identity crisis going one, especially with the last line being "this song has no title just words and a tune" or something like that.
6/10
Not particularly spectacular just by sounds, does have an interesting message, but kind of no answers, and I don't relate to this songs as much.
6. Grey Seal
Like the beginning good piano riff. Nice tempo, very contrasting to the previous piece. Like the little wuh-da wuh-da wuh-dah doot dah or whatever, fun little pause. Never a dull moment, nice and cool song. I also love the drums, they are not boring at all really nice. The guitar solo is cool, maybe a little extra on the reverb? but honestly fits the silly feeling of the song.
7.5/10
It was interesting and fun, but the lyrics would have needed to be more impressive to be an 8.
Jamaica Jerk-Off
Kinda like the different style of drums, grooves very well. I think I could like this song a lot, instruments aren't overpowering but they are still interesting, would like lyrics to change more, but I'm kinda seeing that that isn't Elton John's thing. Kind of interesting mumbling part in the middle, but I won't hate on that (too much). I think Imma move to Jamaica
7.5/10
Nice vocals, interesting at the beginning, began to be repetitive
I've Seen That Movie Too
Very nice mellow and slightly jazzy sound, good bass line, at least for the message, maybe a little boring for the bassist (but that's okay they are used to it). Never mind the bass line's kicking up. Very cool song though, like the violins, also the piano in Elton John's music is always on point, probably one of the high points of his music. Background guitar is cool, very nice touch, love the way it transitions into a solo.
8/10
I liked the lyrics, the feel, the piano was very nice, I didn't get bored, in fact the whole song was pretty engaging.
Sweet Painted Lady
Okay the start of this one is pretty promising. Getting subliminal Billy Joel vibes, which is always a plus. I think the accordion? is very fitting, makes it feel like Venice or France. I could see this playing in the background of some sort of romance movie. I don't like the seagulls
7.9/10
Sorry it was great, but the seagulls
The Ballad Of Danny Bailey (1909-1934)
Wow, huge mood change. Piano weirdly made me think of Under Control by Parachutes, I dunno why, they aren't really similar (I listened to it earlier today). But Under Control is a peak song, a little repetitive, maybe. I like the feel of this song, nice, rigid, a little driving. I haven't really been paying attention to the lyrics, but poor Danny Bailey, sounds like a cool guy. Okay this is scary, I'm getting Coconut Mall vibes (Mario Kart), never quote me on that. But also thinking of two songs that are peak is a really good sign. This is song is cool.
8.5/10
Loved the piano the feel, felt like I was riding a wave the whole time. (Elton John has a weird thing about making sad songs happy)
Dirty Little Girl
Sorry this song has too similar of a feel to The Ballad Of Danny Bailey, my brain is getting bored. But it is a good song, nice guitar riff and good piano. The vibe isn't quite right to me though, it's like Elton John is a little out of his element maybe? Or I'm just in a different mental space, I can't tell. I could do without the random blaring synth.
7/10
I just couldn't with this song, my brain tells me it's good, but my ear doesn't jive with that.
All The Girls Love Alice
Okay, we back, Imma like this one, nice driving beat, good riff. I'm Still Standing type feel, except not quite the same, it's good. Love Elton's voice on the one (I can call him Elton, right?). Ooooooh nice good slow section, like the disappearance of the backgrounds. Oooooaugh, the bass, the guitar, perfect. Okay, I'm like mentally praying to music gods (that don't actually exist, I'm Christian) that this song doesn't get boring. Yesss, this beautiful, like the nice experimental sounds, they weren't right in some of the other song, but this style is messy enough that it fits, at least better.
8.5/10
I would love to say higher, but it still wasn't quite top tier, but it was truly a work of art.
Your Sister Can't Twist (But She Can Rock'n'Roll)
What's this funky-ahhh honkty-tonk rock that decided to show up? I dunno, but at least it's mostly grooving. Like the little organ, and like the classic a'cappella thing. Okay, what the freak, who asked the circus to join? This has gotta be the most interesting mash-up I've heard in this album.
6.5/10
Kind of random, kind of liked it, kind of was scared of it, but not the worst thing ever.
Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)
Okay, back in the groove again, this one is pretty good. Moved past the honky-tonk and into more classic stuff. Pretty good, kind of just classic stuff, definitely not a bad song, nothing too special though. Nice drums, solid guitar, but really no huge wow factors.
7/10
Solid song, good groove, wasn't too boring, maybe a little repetitive, but I didn't want to die, or skip (I haven't skipped a single song, I ain't disrespecting anyone like that).
Roy Rogers
Good, nice slow song, much needed contrast to all the upbeat songs. Very classic, pretty similar to Candle in the Wind. Finally thought of the song they both remind me of, God Bless the U.S.A. which is obviously very well-known. So it's kind of hard when a song sounds a lot like it, not that God Bless the U.S.A. isn't annoying but it also makes the other songs harder to listen to. But this is a good song too.
7/10
Good solid song, won't make anyone go crazy, but very nice.
Social Disease
Love the slight bluesy-ness, and the little growls in his voice. Nice country feel, very cool. He said tequila +.1 points. I always have to give points for a sax solo, even if it sounds a little fake (I play saxophone). Pretty good style, impressed with the high notes if it is real, it is a little basic, but that's how all pop sax solos are, soooo.... eh. I can kinda agree with the message of the song, of being a social disease, I don't always get high, but I am not good at talking to people.
8.1/10
Good song, I liked it, sax solo, interesting and good
Harmony
Good upbeat slow song, seems to about a girl named Harmony. Could have three meanings, he loves Harmony, Pennsylvania, he likes the girl or he wants to have good harmony (which Elton John already has). Probably the girl one, but who cares. Anyway it was a good slow song, it was engaging, and he said Harmony a bunch, what more can you ask for?
7.5/10
Honestly about halfway through I got tired of the album, but I pushed through and it was really cool. Most of the songs were pretty good, Elton John laid a couple eggs but that's okay. I like Elton John a lot more now and am pretty sad that I didn't like him as much before.
4/5 for the whole album because there were no songs at or above 9/10, but nothing that was worse than a 6/10, it was all some pretty good stuff.
King Crimson
4/5
1. 21st Century Schizoid Man
Kinda interesting almost silence at the beginning, I like the opening, ooh this is nice. Reminds me of like messier Cage the Elephant stuff. Dunno how I feel about the double time part, but the breakdown is really cool. Interesting squeally guitar part. I would like it, but it's almost a little too fast for the feel, just sounds a little rushed. I love the slower tempos a lot more. Very cool ending though, can't complain about the cacophony.
7.5/10
Mostly good, just a couple things that were a miss with me
2. I Talk To The Wind
Don't know if the transition between the two songs is quite perfect, it feels like it could have been executed slightly differently, but still nice. But I like the this song, it's kind of floating, very contrasting to the 21st Century Schizoid Man. Beautiful double solo, very in-style and love the flute. Oooh the ending flute solo is absolutely peak.
7/10
I didn't have any above average feelings about this song, but it was still really beautiful and cool
3. Epitaph
Okay I like the transition on this one, Epitaph is seeming really cool. This song is really soulful and I love it, nice and a little romantic while still being experimental and interesting. Love the little build in the middle of the song, gives a cool start to the change in it. I like the way it turns back to its original melody after the break, honestly this song is really cool. I like the drums near the end, seems fun for the drummer, maybe would like a slightly different tone on the kit, but eh.
8/10
Really cool song, soulful, love it's build, the middle section was a little less noticeable but still really cool
4. Moonchild
Nice beginning to the song, very somber, I like it, tasteful. I really want this song to build like all get out. I like the time the King Crimson has taken with this song, it doesn't happen too fast, but there is always something that is happening, it's great. Love the random ride hits, they give the song a nice little bit of color, the slow guitar build is also great. Just beautiful. I try to like the random noise sections, but usually I just can't get behind them, they're too arrhythmical and just like some sort of noodling, with no clear purpose. Like the return to normalcy though, it's very refreshing actually, it's interesting how even though I don't like the arrhythmical stuff it still can add to the story of the song.
7.5/10
This song was really cool for the most part, it's just like the extremely progressive parts that get me, I'm never quite in the mental space to listen to stuff like that
5. The Court Of The Crimson King
This is also a cool song, very good counter to the previous song, I like the feel too, dark, kind of feels medieval. The double(ish) time feel is much more applicable in this song, and I like it a lot more. Like the consistent use of flute throughout the album, makes the whole thing more cohesive. Honestly, I can see how all of these songs kind of go together, all the songs are very distinct but go together so well, in their own weird way, it's really cool.
Pause, after that the little organ is kind of interesting, but I can kind of see how it fits? But I do like the little reprise after that, it's very triumphant. The little finish I feel was unnecessary, and a little random, but it does give a little bit of nice closure.
7.5/10
Really brought the whole album together and finished it strong, but I can't say that I was that extremely into the song, it was still great though
I was honestly really scared that I wasn't going to like this album, but it surprised me and I thought it was great. The back half was definitely stronger to me than the front, but both were amazing. I liked the back half because it helped me see the picture of the whole album, and that was really cool to see. Overall the album wasn't revelatory to me, but that might just be the way I am. Solid 4/5, definitely a little more, but not quite perfect.
The Cure
4/5
1. Plainsong
Cinematic beginning, kind of cool, don't know how I feel about it, kind of good. Nice instrumentals and stuff, kind of Coldplay feel, for some reason, at least like the vocals. Same kind of background stuff the whole song, a little too much of the same stuff for me.
6.5/10
Still a good song, not bad music, but I couldn't get into it.
2. Pictures of You
The way these songs follow each other is really nice and fitting, they go well together. I like the nice complex picking on the guitar, and like building of layers, it sounds cool. I also like the random wind chime thing, it's fun. Nice little pauses between version, makes for a good transition to vocals. I like the way the song flows, it's all very natural and keeps the song interesting.
7.5/10
I liked the song a lot, it was good, and flowed nicely, but it ran just a little bit long for my taste.
3. Closedown
This song starts pretty okay, I don't know if I like the start, it's not really into any groove. Well, actually it has grown on me a little, the synth chords helped a little, and the guitar background. All of these songs are getting really similar, I don't know how I'll do with an album full of these. Not a lot of words, mostly just like ambient instrumental.
6.5/10
It was cool, but it got kind of boring, just like ambient instrumental.
4. Lovesong
Okay, okay, nice little spy vibe? Love whatever the bass is doing. Nice little piano part, don't quite jive with the tone of the piano. Love the little guitar spy chord hits. Nice vocals, fit the vibe well, not a bad voice, maybe a little more melody would be nice, but it's a good chill vocal. Nice little guitar solo.
8/10
Never a dull moment, the song was good, not necessarily revelatory, but good.
5. Last Dance
Liking the instrumental beginning to this one, especially the switch to the more guitar focused backgrounds, really cool. I don't know if I like the vocals as much on this one, not necessarily bad though. Nice continuation of the song though, some nice slight color changes that keep the song interesting. On all of these song I would like more contrast from the original vibe though, they just kind of lay a baseline and don't really deviate much from that line.
7.5/10
Nice very solid song, I would like a little more variety and change within the song, but it stayed relatively interesting.
6. Lullaby
The groove on this one is really nice, doesn't feel like a lullaby at all but okay. Nice little synth solo, more backgroundish, but good. Oooh fun little whispery vocals, very fitting to the vibe. This song really grooves, I do not know how this isn't their most popular song in the album. Kind of would like a more solid chorus in this song, that would have put it over the top but still a really nice song.
8.5/10
Never a dull moment, very fitting to the vibe, good groove, nice ornaments, the ending was nice too.
7. Fascination Street
Didn't really like the Lullaby to Fascination Street transition, didn't feel right, but it's okay. Fascination Street is also cool, I like the beginning, the synth is a little piercing, but I might just have my volume up too high. Very good vibe, got the same kind of rock/spy feel, it sounds really cool. Kind of makes me think of a sped up St. Walker? by Young the Giant, could be wrong on that one, but I think I'm right. Definitely not the same, but still similar feel. I like the vocals, definitely more of a messier feel than the other songs, but its very fitting with the style.
8.5/10
I also like this song a lot, it had a nice dark and moody feel and had a groove and parts that matched well.
8. Prayers for Rain
Honestly would not believe I am on song #8 this album has kind of flown by, I got a little scared at song 2-3 but there have been nice changes in style that have made it more interesting. This one does have the same feel as the song before, and I dunno, it's not quite as good, but still nice. I don't know if I like the synth part, not quite right. But the guitar playing was on point. I do like the vocals on this song though, so I'm thinking this song will get a pretty good score despite the weird synth.
8/10
Almost as good as the other song, but not quite the same, and the synth part didn't quite sit well with me. TED-Ed ending, intrusive though, sorry
9. The Same Deep Water as You
This song is seeming pretty cool, I don't know if I like this song's groove as much either, but it has some eerie elements that I like. The synth line is much better in this one, why wasn't it good on the last one? I don't know. I like the vocals on this one, very soulful. The way each part in this song work together is really nice. This song is long though, I like it so far, I really, really, really, hope it doesn't get boring. It has gotten a little boring, dang it, there just isn't enough variation for me to really stay tuned in, it does change, but not enough. The crackles last forever too.
7.5/10
Really good song, I liked it, it just got a little repetitive and not enough changed, just started feeling a little flat.
10. Disintegration
Very nice, upbeat and all, good contrast to the previous song. Kind of "Take on Me"-like snare hits, goes with the song pretty well though. I do like what the bass is doing, keeps the song interesting. This song is getting and feeling repetitive a lot quicker than the other songs, it's probably because it's faster. But thankfully the drums and harmony changed up a little right then, kept it nice. I have not been listening to the lyrics of these songs enough, I'm getting so sucked into the way they sound, but probably because that's the cool part, the way the instruments sound.
8/10
Good solid song, might've been a little long but stayed interesting and had a nice groove.
11. Homesick
MMMMMMMMMM That's some tasty piano. I like the guitar too, nice little duet. Oh shoot and the drums are so tasteful too. Holy, cow and the violin (probably a synth sound) too? This song is nice with it. Gah, the blaring synth is ruining it, nooooooooo. Maybe gives a little bit of eeriness, but dang, I don't like it. Also when the bass comes in, peak. mmmm, dang, I don't like the lyrics either, this song is like so close to being great, but it's like the one song were the style didn't completely come together, it's really sad. The vocals, are actually growing on me a little, but still would've liked them a little different. Never mind, man actually hit the most depressed doos I have ever heard. Nice little piano solo at the end, gah and this song was almost perfect.
8.5/10
Despite my complaints I loved the backgrounds and everything that happened there, I just didn't like some of the synth parts and vocals.
12. Untitiled
Okay, maybe the tone on the synth was a little bad, but the starting groove is nice. Makes me wanna dance, very happy and pop-ish compared to the rest of the songs, actually feels like the end of the album. The vocals on this one are nice too, so far this song has been one of my favorites. Maybe gets a little repetitive at the end, but fair, not that uninteresting.
8.25/10
It's a nice and good song, but it's too light to really be cool, and not really pop-ey enough to be pop so it can't quite get to 8.5, but it is a very solid and good song.
I'd say this was a pretty good cohesive album, all the songs had a pretty similar vibe, which is good. I liked most of them, but sadly some of them did get a little boring, The Cure doesn't really change their songs up enough for me to be extremely engaged the whole time, but they were all good, so not too many complaints. This album has a bunch of good songs so a solid 4/5.

Tracy Chapman
4/5
I really thought this album was awesome. Fast Car was good, but honestly I like some of the other songs better, Talkin' Bout a Revolution, Across the Lines and Mountain O' Things were all highlights. Why?, For My Lover and If Not Now... were all good too. I though Behind the Wall was really cool as well, and just a little different. I liked all of the songs, they were all really heartfelt and each had their own deep message about struggle and doing better, it was awesome.
