1001 Albums Summary

New Wave. Very much can tell that he was in Genesis with Phil Collins. I enjoy how it’s quite dark.

60’s blues rock. I’m not going to add it to my list of albums. In general, it’s quite dreary and unfinished, especially towards the end. Terrapin and Octopus are, in my opinion, the only tracks that’s fine. If it wasn’t Syd Barrett, it’d have been forgotten in my view. The tragedy of what happened to him is why this ranks in the 1001 albums you must listen to before you die. Maybe if you were more focused on the contextual side, viewing that the album shows a deterioration of his mental state, you could appreciate it more.

This is a great album. It has some really excellent standalone hits (Would?, Them Bones, Rooster), but the whole album is strong overall. I’ve listened before multiple times so I’m perhaps biased on this one because I have more exposure.

I enjoyed it. The lyrics were storytelling and poetic. The general style of music is a bit generic in my mind, but it’s also of its time in that regard. I also do get why people say Bob Dylan can’t sing … but I think the overall musical and lyrical quality compensates for that.
