Pearl by Janis Joplin

With a powerful voice and soul-inspired sounds, this album felt like a blend between gospel and rock n' roll. However, I didn't find anything particularly striking. A lot of the songs started to blend together as I listened. The instrumentals were very similar, but I liked the energy Joplin brought to every song.

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Dec 23 2025

I'm glad this pointed me in the direction of Sly and the Family Stone. I enjoy their funky sound, but I much more prefer the sound of the successors they influenced, rather than them specifically. I greatly appreciate the talent they held and the diversity they preached, but I think their sound might be a bit too dated for me.

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Dec 24 2025

Bowie had such a distinct style in his music. He isn't exactly an amazing vocalist, but he took what he had and tore up with it. Particularly loved the performances on "Changes" and "Life on Mars."
