Great vocals, easy listening. Classic blues music, makes you feel like you’re in the South in the 1950’s sipping a lemonade on the porch on a sweltering August day. Just not really my genre.
Excellent rock album. Innovative, raw, fun, eclectic in the best way. Has a very pure, experimental, yet classic sound. Some blues and even gospel elements thrown in. I especially like songs like Hotel Yorba and I’m Finding It Harder to Be a Gentleman. Certain stretches get a little long or sound like basic rock.
Classic Country/Western, emphasis on the Western. Listening makes you feel like you’re sitting in a saloon in the Old West with old man Willie strumming out front singing stories of outlaws and cavaliers. Easy listening, good vibes. However, each song kind of feels the same as the last, somewhat predictable and safe chord progressions.
Classic sounding Johnny Cash. The title track was outstanding. All the vocals are incredible and it definitely scratches the urge for deep, dark, moody country and storytelling. It stays in one lane and probably isn’t something I’d listen to often, but only because it isn’t my favorite genre.
It really is an excellent album. Classics like Come Together and Here Comes the Sun both hold up, even as familiar as they are. But many of the other songs are equally hit-worthy. The Beatles are at their best when they provide the back-and-forth tango between vocals and guitar, almost as if in conversation with each other… you can’t help but smile. Standouts include the bluesy “I Want You (She’s So Heavy),” the longing and love conveyed in “Something,” the anthemic, atmospheric “Carry That Weight,” and fun, boppy songs like “Mean Mr. Mustard” and “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window.” Truly a classic even though I’ve never been particularly drawn to pre-1990’s music.
It’s a great album, if you happen to be precisely in the mood for funky instrumental music played on a ballpark organ. The title track is a classic, and each individual song is really good, but for me it’s not my thing to listen to all of them in one sitting; it can feel a little repetitive.
Genuinely was bored the whole time. It’s not my thing. It simultaneously sounded too theatrical but also too unoriginal.
At some of its best moments (like “Feel,” “Don’t Lie to Me,” “When My Baby’s Beside Me”), it sounds like the inspiration for Boston’s “More than a Feeling” - squealing guitar and vocals. That’s a huge compliment from me. Some ballads are great too (“Thirteen” was a familiar classic). Some of the tracks are a bit outdated in sound to me, or simple. But really good for something so outside my genre.
This one grows on you. First listen I was a little disappointed, but second listen (in a coffee shop while working on things) it was the perfect vibe. Chill, fresh sounding, brings instant relaxation. It just feels… warm? No other way to describe it sonically. Makes you feel warm and cozy. The Girl from Ipanema is of course a classic. Other favorites are “Só Danço Samba,” “Doralice,” and “Para Machucar Meu Coracao”
10/10 vocals! However, some of the songs were a bit forgettable. I have a feeling it would really grow on me after a few more listens. Other than “Superstition,” I hadn’t heard any of the songs before. Standouts include “Lookin’ for Another Pure Love” and “Maybe Your Baby.” Looking forward to diving into some more Stevie Wonder in the future.
I think I hate psychedelic rock. This was awful for me. It was somehow simultaneously too weird and too boring.
Pretentious, preachy lyrics. Try-hard edginess. Boring, repetitive music.
Pretty good. The two standouts are the title track and “War Pigs.” Metal is not my favorite genre, but I sort of enjoyed it in parts.
