Honestly? It’s pretty great. Although some records didn’t click right away. I’ve listened before to the worldwide hit “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” and it still hits me, even the cover by Lorde is a masterpiece. I would probably listen to it again too. They are great, for a duo of white dudes tho lol.
My top five are: I Believe, Shout, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Head Over Heels & The Working Hour. Tears for Fear deserve a 8.5/10 overall.
Repeater - Fugazi
It’s not that bad, it just didn’t click for me. It is loud, nice live instrumentation, nothing crazy or innovating. I don’t even remember the names of the songs. They’re not great vocalists either, tbh. The name of the album indicates that you’re going to listen again, but it’s not the case here. At all!!! It’s just sad. 2.3/10. Nice album cover tho.
the WILDEST! - Louis Prima
It’s ok, nothing groundbreaking. At least there’re some bops here and then. It’s fine.
MTV Unplugged In New York - Nirvana
One of the most famous bands of the late 80s through the early 90s. I don’t know them like I know other artists from that period (I like others more, no shade!). I know pop rock and grunge were big at the time. But for me, it’s fine. Like, Kurt Cobain was loved by everyone at the time. That’s not the case here. The songs didn’t click for me! I’m not denying their success, and I’m not trying to drag their art either. I just tried to listen with an open mind, but it didn’t hit though!
Eagles self-titled & debut!
What a classic! There’s depth, great lyrics, vocals too. It was good! Prepare yourself for the first time listening. It’s a beautiful narrative about this group and their development through the early 70s. Solid performance. 9.1/10
A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spector
Already became my favorite Christmas album. I’ve missed the opportunity to listen to it on Christmas Eve, but I’ll sure be playing the whole thing next Xmas! Beautiful selection of great vocalists and wonderful musicians at the time. No notes!
Home Is Where The Music Is - Hugh Masekela
This one hits different. It’s long, for sure (I’m not complaining, like, I enjoyed music within 6 or more minutes). But it has some tunes to it. Great percussion and horns, the instrumentation is definitely something. You gotta get some time and vibes for the whole thing. For me, it’s good! Period.
Slayed? - Slade
Yeah, this brits got some bops. Solid album!
Introducing The Hardline According to Sananda Maitreya – Sananda Maitreya
I liked the way he wrote the name of the album, it encapsulates the whole record. Great vocals, some hits, it’s definitely a classic for that time. He ate that!!!
Superunknown - Soundgarden
Well… it’s just white! That’s all. Great vocals though.
Dusty In Memphis - Dusty Springfield
Calling her, and I quote, “finest white soul singer of her era” is crazy work ngl! Of course she’s a British pop diva, as it should be, although this album has her best songs (thanks to the pen master, Carole King, writing her most personal lyrics ever). I think she encapsulates the 60s era with a great catalog, with a camp look (for the time period). I enjoy this body of work, with consistency and kind of intimacy, and beautiful vocals for a white lady, no shade! I’ll probably check out her other records. Great album!
Hail To the Thief - Radiohead
Oh, I didn’t know this was a jam. Besides the political undertone, this record has some crazy melodies & instrumentation that hit different. Clearly they ate this up real bad. There’s quite a pervasive feeling of impending doom that hangs just below the surface of every record. And of course, the last one is a BANGER.
