Album: MTV Unplugged in New York
Artists: Nirvana
First spin mood: live albums get such a bad rep, but I enjoy watching and listening to live sets. so it’s great that the first album of this passion project is a live album. Nirvana is one of those bands that everyone should know so you pretend to know them as well. I’ve never been a huge listener other than a couple of their hits, but lately I’ve turned a new leaf and decided to listen to albums in its entirety to grasp the experience that the artist tries to take you on. The album really started up for me after plateau, with of course come as you are and man who sold the world are great but something in plateau seemed to change the atmosphere of the album for me.
What it stirred in me: curiosity and impatience maybe
One lyric or sound that stayed with me: Polly want a cracker lol whaaat haha. The voice in plateau resonated with me
Where I was: started listening to this on a road trip from California to Colorado going through a snowstorm on i70 passing vail.
What I felt: high expectations, which weren’t met until plateau. Didn’t know that song so it was cool to discover something new.
Album: Dusty in Memphis
Artist: Dusty Springfield
First spin mood: Ahhh that lovely vocal, such an angel of a voice. Bitter sweet feeling because I love music about love as I’m going through a bit of a mourning period of a relationship that didn’t get its place.
Album felt the perfect vibe to lay rest to feelings of unrequited love. We get so caught up in the day to day that we forget to zoom out and take in the bigger picture. All mountains seem flat the closer you look at them.
Sometimes, scratch that. Life requires risk. Don’t spend too much time thinking about the what if. Go out and make your own life happen. Absolutely loved the album will be recommending to my peeps (:
What it stirred in me: melancholy, longing
One lyric or sound that stayed with me:
Where I was: cold Tuesday winter morning driving to work listened to the album while eating my morning breakfast
What I felt: to feel pain from love is evidence of the capability of the love we are able to experience.
Play: the complete recordings
Artist: Moby
Album: Play
First spin mood: ughhhhh (a good ugh) felt that funky beat. I instantly reacted with the famous stank face because that is not at all what I expected. I enjoy the mixing but would have liked a bit more diversity in that first couple songs. Nonetheless, I can see why this would be included in this. Side note, I see this album as having great potential to be sampled as well.
I actually don’t know if this is related whatsoever but I was reminded of how I met your mother New Year’s Eve episode and funny enough it’s New Year’s Eve today as I write this. Anyways there is a moby that they find and he’s a musician so I wonder if this is who it’s suppose to be lol will confirm later.
The album goes through many phases starts off really high energy pumped up vibes then gradually decreases into a chill slow atmosphere. I enjoyed it very much!!
What it stirred in me: DANCE, movement, want to get jiggy
One lyric or sound that stayed with me: some people go to church just to set up a date with the neighbors wife
Where I was
What I felt
Album: Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
Artists: The Beatles
First spin mood: Absolutely love the beatles already so when I saw that this was the album of the day, I was thrilled. Growing up in a hispanic household where parents only speak spanish, you can guess what kind of music I grew up around. One day though I wanted guitar hero really bad and we went all over town to different game stops and none of them had the one I want. So, at our last stop my mom frustrated and tired said you get something here or you get nothing. As a result, the only game they had was rock band the beatles edition. We ended up taking that one and as a result fell in love with the beatles. Many beautiful memories of me and my brother singing their songs. Granted that game mainly had their cheerful rock themed music. It wasn’t until later that I further explored their other themes and fell even more love with their sad and melancholic themes.
What it stirred in me: happiness, nostalgia
One lyric or sound that stayed with me: When Im sixty four, I sent it to my best friend that we bonded over our musical taste.
Where I was: First day of 2026, went for a walk at a park before playing some volleyball.
What I felt: very cheerful sounding music with sad themed lyrics. overall great experience.
Loved it! Great experience
Melodys were relaxing but not a huge fan of gospel music
Album: Abraxas
Artists: Santana
First spin mood: very jammy, love it. Lately I’ve been gravitating towards a higher appreciation of instrumentation and this hits that on the nail perfectly. Such sweet melodies and guitar riffs that will transport you.
What it stirred in me: magical sensations, chills
One lyric or sound that stayed with me: absolutely love oye como va, and great to hear it again.
Where I was: driving in the snow, early morning vibes not slow at all but the music helped me recenter and calm down. To take it slow that life ain’t going anywhere
What I felt: maybe a sensation of slowness and patience. I remember feelings of impatience when there was too much instrumentation solo but now I enjoy it and relish in them.
Album: At San Quentin
Artists: Johnny Cash
First spin mood: I was really excited when I saw his name pop up because I’ve never really listened to his music other than the popular songs (ring of fire lol). So it got me thinking that I can see what’s all the motion behind him. With this being a live album it exposed me to the great performer he is, the way he interacts and gets the crowd going. Feels like you have been life time friends. I enjoyed the music a lot especially a boy named sue, walk the line and wanted man. I felt like San Quentin the song was a bit of a milk from being arrested for picking some flowers haha
What it stirred in me: curiosity and mystery
One lyric or sound that stayed with me: definitely the plot twist in a boy named sue with that being his father, so wholesome yet fucked
Where I was: working outside in the trenches on a snowy day, pretty shit weather but music always has a way of making things lighter
What I felt: I felt cool to get an in on Johnny cash
