The New Tango by Astor Piazzolla

Listen on: Spotify Listening experience: Single sitting while working I knew nothing of this artist or album. I made a guess it would be instrumental and so could plausibly listen while working. It was a very interesting sound - the live crowd were gagged for it. Not sure what the instrument is but it reminded me of a ringtone or phone alarm so I knocked a point off. Otherwise and enjoyable tension in the music. Would have surely never found this album on my own.

Listened on: Spotify (2007 remastered) Listening experience: Across multiple sessions, in the car driving Already a fair weather U2 fan but had never gone to this album to listen intentionally. First 3 songs are the singles. The middle songs thereafter were just as good. The guitar sound is really unmistakable. I felt it lost steam towards the end but could be because I was interrupted multiple times. Will definitely put this album on again.

Abraxas by Santana
Jan 06 2026

Listened on: Spotify Listening experience: Over multiple sessions in the car I enjoyed this album and knew a couple of the songs - Black Magic Woman and Oye Como Va (no idea where I have heard this one). I enjoyed the instrumentals and was pleasantly surprised by the piano and other instruments other than guitars. Would definitely put this one on again.

Live And Dangerous by Thin Lizzy
Jan 07 2026

Listened on: Spotify Listening experience: Multiple attempts Finally got through the 17 songs - a long one! I didn’t hate it but it got a bit boring. He has a great voice and the guitars are great.

British Steel by Judas Priest
Jun 01 2026

Listened on: Spotify Listening experience: Interrupted over two sessions - train and car Definitely not what I would have picked for a Monday evening commute - but wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be once I got used to the fact. Sounds like Black Sabbath - but I would choose Black Sabbath. I know nothing about Judas Priest and definitely had never heard any of the songs on this album - that was a novel experience. I liked the guitar solos the best. Grinder was catchy. I might listen to that song again, but don’t think I would replay the whole album.

Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park
Jun 02 2026

Listened on: Spotify Listening experience: Morning and evening commute I haven’t listened to this album in full since high school - it took me right back to Grade 11 in high school. I had this CD (maybe I still do but haven’t been home to check) but it was definitely passed around. I remember burned copies being in cars. Every song I knew and remembered. The teenage rage is still there. Will not wait so long to listen to this again. RIP Chester.

Listened on: Spotify Listening experience: Single session while doing housework and in the shower Loved this - can’t wait to hear more 60s albums. Would put this on again. Only a point off for the screaming fans.

Jun 05 2026

Listened on: Spotify (not at home to put on record) Listening experience: In the car in full Feels like a funny place to start in the line of Beatles albums (this is the first thrown out on the list). Love everything about it and even though I have listened to it many times I’ll listen to it again and again. Hard to pick a favourite song. At the moment it’s Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (or as Audrey calls it Marmalade Skies).

Disintegration by The Cure
Jun 08 2026

Listened on: Spotify Listening experience: Interrupted but managed on the same day Loved this. Have never listened to this album from start to finish. So pleasing to listen to. I didn’t know any of the songs other than the hits - Pictures of you, Lovesong, Lullaby (these must be on the greatest hits album which I have). Will listen to this album again for sure.

We Are Family by Sister Sledge
Jun 09 2026

Listen on: Spotify (1995 remaster) Listening experience: Protracted First female album of the project! Also first disco album. Really enjoyed listening to it and would put this on again.

Jun 10 2026

Listened on: Spotify Listening experience: Single sitting I was super hungover and did not feel like listening to this - the repetition was hurting my brain. Certain parts also sounded like a Teams call. By the end I didn’t hate and it almost had me off to sleep.

Scissor Sisters by Scissor Sisters
Jun 11 2026

Listened on: Spotify Listening experience: Single glorious uninterrupted session Wow - this was 2004. Reminds me of youth and party tunes. Have never listened to the full album - it was so fun. Highlights are Laura and Tits on the Radio. Fabulous.

A Northern Soul by The Verve
Jun 12 2026

Listened on: Spotify Listening experience: Protracted, multiple attempts in the car Hadn’t heard any songs off this album - only familiar with Urban Hymns. Love Richard Ashcroft’s voice. This would have been one of those albums from the 90s where you bought it unknown and then listened to it until you liked it. A point off for the fucking fade in. Why? How do I know how loud to put the volume? Has it started? Is there something wrong with my stereo? Stop.

Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
Jun 15 2026

Listen on: Spotify (2013 remaster) Listening experience: Interrupted. Driving and house jobs I wanted to like this but I couldn’t get into it. The title track with the chaotic piano was very ill timed with some stressful navigating in the car. I’ll have to give this one another shot (this is the first Bowie album of the project and I know there are many more to come). This was probably not the logical entry point!

A Love Supreme by John Coltrane
Jun 16 2026

Listened on: Spotify Listening experience: Commute home - almost finished the final track but didn’t get there I really was not in the right mood for jazz. I don’t really enjoy it at the best of times - too chaotic. If I didn’t know this was an influential album I wouldn’t have picked it. The musicianship is impressive. Obviously supremely talented but I probably wouldn’t reach for it again unless in the right setting.

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Jun 17 2026

Listened on: Spotify Listening experience: Over two sessions, driving home Such a strong start with 4 hits in a row. I enjoyed the next 5 too, but had not heard them before this. Just a joyful listening experience. Your Latest Trick has the smoothest saxophone I’ve ever heard. Velvet to the ear. Will listen again for sure.
