Listening statistics & highlights
The performances are tight and it's very emblematic of Creedence's bluesy southern rock sound. I have to admit that CCR has always been a "they're alright" band for me. With few exceptions I just can't really get into them. I can appreciate this album, but I have to admit it isn't my thing.
In hindsight this feels extremely 90s but that isn't a mark against it. I almost wanna say some songs on this album feel overproduced, but really the snarling, ugly, personal rawness of the lyrics are what shine through it all. It feels like the snap back from a disaffected 90s woman who was told to smile more one too many times and I live for it.
I can't stand most of the hard rock bands that popped up around the 70s. I never even lived in that decade and I am still sick to death of the sex drugs and rock n roll era. ZZ Top is an exception though. They seem to have a healthy sense of humor and know not to take themselves too seriously or come across as threatening. This one was a fun listen.
It's decently old school big band goodness that still makes room for some lovely solos. If you're a nerd like me and enjoy the snippets of jazz and swing you hear in Fallout, this will do you well.
