1001 Albums Summary

I really liked this. First album of the project and I listened all the way pretty much instantly. First track grabbed me and I recognised the lead's voice instantly. It includes Everybody Hurts on it which is a famous one of theirs I reckon. Have now put it together that Losing My Religion is probably why I know his voice - and now I also know his name is Michael Stipe! Enjoyed this album a lot and love this concept as a way to listen to new music!!

This was fine. Very easy listen and only 30 minutes long. However at my core I am not excited by the Beatles. Title track slaps and some other Beatles songs do too but the rest of it I find samey. I will always respect the instrumentation, the musicality and the huge influence which the Beatles had on music, specifically pop music - but I will never go back for the listen.

Absolutely iconic album. So many samples I did not know and the production is so so good - Dre and Arabian Prince involved. I love this album, love the lyrics. I didn't know the FBI wrote a warning letter about Fuck Tha Police. The beats on Something 2 Dance 2 are insane.

Milestone for gothic rock which admittedly is not a genre I am overly familiar with. This album came after Seventeen Seconds. I found the songs running into each other, making a continuous listen which was depressing and beautiful. Robert Smith's voice is haunting in its familiarity. Special mention to The Hanging Garden and Siamese Twins. However glad that I am that I have listened to this album, I doubt I would seek it out again

Would have been 2 stara except for Heart of Glass and One Way or Another. The rest was filler for me.

This is perfection. Voice like silk. Band tight. Incredible!

Not a memorable listen for me after a few songs. I don't have a nostalgic connection to the Beastie Boys and this was my first time listening to them. Was fun for the first few tracks but very samey after that. Would not go back for the listen again though I did think it was fun for a once off!

First and title track insantly grabbed me because of the sparse beats and Prince's voice complimenting them perfectly. Ballad of Dorothy Parker is also gorgeous and the melody in his voice is perfect.

Was prepared to feel underwhelmend by this but listened all the way through and loved it. Dissonance on tracks like All I Need was amazing. Maybe understand why people love Radiohead - cannot imagine how intense this would be if nostalgia was an element for me.

Is this what one would call ambient? I really enjoyed this. It was an easy but engaging listen. It is something I would have on in the background but at the beginning of many tracks I found myself closing my eyes to just listen (Kaini Industries, Bocuma). I rate this album high because I find it beautiful and varied - it took me by surprise. Roygbiv probably top track for me.

An album which showcases the art of the album very well. Interludes and stories peppered throughout make it a really enjoyable and interesting album to listen through all the way through, in the order it was intended! Shout out to the hits on this of course. Goes without saying that it contains some iconic songs.
