1001 Albums Summary

Maybe this was amazing at the time but feels routine now. Very good but nothing special.

"Bat out of Hell" slaps so hard; I love how operatic it is.

great bars, really fun samples and great instrumentals that set the standard for a decade+ of hip hop.

Driving rhythms are boppy but this album really leans on "Alright"--would give it a 1 without it probably, though I appreciate that a lot of the album's fusions were I assume way ahead of its time.

it's a 5 but wow "Endless, Nameless" should have been left out

There are some tracks where I really get it and others where I kind of can't stand it

The mixing is really good. It's very well produced and fun but nothing earth-shattering.

They've hit on a great sound and are good lyricists but it's very samey

I think a step below It Takes a Nation but not a 4. Some absolute bangers and it all really flows together

I don't know what I expected but it was not a clear inspiration for bands like Cut Copy, Tame Impala, etc. A little divided between 3 and 4 but dips down a bit too much for me to go with 4 I think.

Such a delightful album (besides "Silent Night") but breaking new ground.
