Listening statistics & highlights
Great album, really was only familiar with Fast Cars, but every track was good... really drives home how little things have changed for the better in the almost 40 years since. There were moments, but real progress on so many of the issues she sings about has been fleeting at best.
Once in a Lifetime is a certified banger, but the rest of the album was just so-so for me. Not a huge fan of David Byrne's talk-singing vocals. Backing vocals are good, instrumentation is sometimes very good, sometimes overly busy and repetitive.
Prince has some great songs, unfortunately not so much on this album. Way too heavy on the cheesy 80s synths, and too many tracks drag on way too long. Very dated sound that unfortunately doesnt hold up well.
Decent 60s pop/rock, if somewhat generic musically. Pleasing harmonies.
Good jazzy funk, not a bad listen, some tracks a bit repetitive.
