Powerful pop songs. I don’t love it but don’t dislike it either. I’ve always liked Still haven’t found what I’m looking for. The songs have a similarity between them. That’s style and the U2 sound, and nothing else. I don’t think I’ve heard one tree hill before and like that. That guitar and Bono’s passionate singing are what make that U2 sound. I imagine this album would have a bigger impact on me if I was older when it came out. Instead my father tried to convince me to hate the band. Unbelievably stupid but it worked until I was in my teens or 20s.
Prefacing this review by saying I am not a fan of Moby. While there is a talent to DJing, sampling, etc., that’s what this is. It isn’t original music. It’s easy to bob your head to some of these songs but they weren’t the work of Moby. The obsession over the talent of mixing and matching songs and beats has always confused me. If the counter argument is that he plays some instruments, insta the point? Shouldn’t he be playing all of what he’s claiming to be his work?
I love this album. It is such a legendary staple of jazz music. This music makes me feel relaxed, comfortable but very curious at the same time. It feels like it can go anywhere at any time but always lands perfectly.
Lots of patience for a pop album. I’ve always like Pictures of You and know it has a long intro. I didn’t know that longer intros were their “thing”, or at least was for this album.
I don’t love this album but appreciate it in its appropriate context. The mellow dramatic synth pop songs were popular at the time but from what I understand, The Clash were pioneers of that sound. I’m sure it would be much more relatable, had I been older and more aware of social and political issues of the time. While I hate to say it because sometimes a band’s sound is mistaken as “repetitive” or overdone. That being said, there is just way too much similarity from song to song.
Wow. I really like this album. I’ve heard of this band for years and thought I’d heard their actual music but I was wrong. It’s funny and interesting that I didn’t like the Clash album because it was too repetitive, but one thing I noticed about this album is that there seems to be a lot of Clash influence.
From stat to finish, every song is so easy to listen to and I’m sure it gets more enjoyable the more you listen/more familiar you are with the songs and lyrics.
I tried being open-minded but I do not like this album at all. I’m a fan of rock and roll but this is just a lazy stupid mess.
Just a really good album. It’s sad but powerful, can be intense but also relaxing. I don’t love REM but everything about this album, including the sound, is very solid. I remember when the Everybody Hurts music video was on MTV and VH1 allllll the time and I still love that song.
I’m not a fan of this kind of music but I do appreciate that they are not a one-dimensional band. While most of the songs have a punk-rock feel, I really enjoy when a band can show more musicality in a studio. Since the first song was very heavy, I thought the whole album would be like that. I was pleasantly surprised to find they multiple sides to their sound.
Not bad but nothing out of the ordinary. I didn’t realize The Las wrote There she goes. I’ve always liked that song. There seems to be influences of REM in there. I can’t imagine wanting to Relisten to this but it’s not terrible.
This music isn’t aging well but I can’t deny its impact on music and society.
