All right. The instrumentals are enjoyable but I don't really like the main singer's voice and nothing really stood out to me.
I fuck with this heavy. Standouts are Mysterons, It's a Fire, and Glory Box.
It gives me this X-Files vibe, dark 90s, grimy and spooky but also very beautiful, hauntingly so. Definitely will listen to this again.
I felt similarly about this and the Rush album, except that I liked Rush a little more. I don't know, I don't hate this and I certainly don't think it's bad. On a musical level, it's good; I just don't care. All the songs blended together and I didn't enjoy listening to it. Maybe I'll try again someday but for now it's 2 stars since it's not the worst but I don't really like it.
The Wizard - sounds like a group of wizards and demons and warlocks and aliens all having a party in a barn
I liked it a lot more than I expected to, I would definitely listen again.
This is music to listen while cruising down the highway, windows down and the volume way up. It's a very specific situation that this abum thrives in but I still really enjoyed it. I have a very vivid memory of playing Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 and playing "Smoke on the Water" as a Rabbid, so of course, the song is very iconic to me. I also enjoyed Never Before, they intended it to be their hit single and I get why, it's very catchy.
If I was hosting a cool cocktail party in my slick NYC studio apartment that was retro-modern, I would put this album on in the background to signal to my guests that I'm cultured and sophisticated. I don't hate this at all, it sounds nice (at least the parts I listened to because it's very long) but it's just not really my thing. I think it could be really great under very specific circumstances, but I'm not listening to this in everyday life.
This is proto-glam rock and people seem to really hate it. I don't hate it, I personally enjoy glam rock and all of that but I do really hate this album cover. I would say that I probably enjoyed this a little bit more than the Rush & Led Zeppelin albums (which I also gave a 2) but I don't think I can rate it higher because I don't think it's as good. It might be more enjoyable to listen to but I don't think that this album is very good, it's not interesting, it doesn't seem quite worthy of being an essential album compared to other albums.
I like it. Yes, the vocals are not great but I surprisingly don't really mind. I do enjoy the horns and the almost ska vibe. I didn't have a chance to really sit down and listen to the album in one full sitting, I think it's one that I could come back and potentially appreciate more or at least give a more decisive rating on.
Steely Dan is a very polarizing band, you either love them or hate them. I would say I'm closer to the former, particularly because my dad played us a lot of Steely Dan when I was young. I liked the first half of this album a bit more, or maybe I just didn't listen as closely to the latter half. Rikki Don't Lose that Number is of course a classic but I also quite enjoyed Barrytown and Night by Night; this is an album I'd come back to.
I love Gorillaz but I imagine their first album is not the best of their work, I wish that some of their other albums were on it. Still, this was very good and I enjoyed it. I think that this is an album that I would listen to again, especially since there are a lot of songs and they sort of blended together at points. Clint Eastwood is of course great but I also really liked Re-Hash and Tomorrow Comes Today. Overall, it's interesting, it's funky, and it's fun.
