The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
Feb 18 2026

The Velvet Underground remains a band that I think is interesting (and obviously important) more than one I'd often like to actually listen to. The best part of the album is Nico's voice. Some good tracks for feeling relaxed and cool, like maybe if I wanted to walk around the East Village wearing sunglasses and smoking. Some of the more chaotic/experimental noise stuff feels a little like a precursor to Life Without Buildings, but then again, everything on this album is a precursor to like all of popular rock for the next several decades. Favorite tracks: Heroin, There She Goes Again, I'll Be Your Mirror.

Marquee Moon by Television
Feb 19 2026

Wow these '70s white dudes sure all sang like this huh. I immediately love the production on this album. Even something as simple as the use of stereo in the intro of See No Evil, but there's also just something so clean but loose about all the instruments. I didn't like See No Evil much but Venus instantly gripped me. Wow some of these songs sure do just go on huh. Favorite tracks: Venus, Guiding Light.

Melodrama by Lorde
Feb 20 2026

I love the production on this album: dark, dense, pulsing with moody, almost menacing energy. And Lorde's rasp is the perfect voice to deliver it. An album to listen to when you're depressed but still the coolest bitch in the room. The lyrics don't all land for me, but this is definitely going into my regular rotation. Favorite tracks: I really need to listen more to determine because I like it all but on a first listen - Green Light, The Louvre, Hard Feelings/Loveless, Melodrama (Sober II), Perfect Places.

Celebrity Skin by Hole
Feb 21 2026

Ooh baby this sounds like the '90s. Courtney Love just has a perfect voice, idk what else to say. A much "softer" album than I was expecting, having just known Hole from reputation up to this point. I really dig this, I wonder how much it's going to be something I go back to though, just because of how much it feels of its time, and in a style I'm just not in the mood for a lot these days. Definitely something to throw into playlists but maybe not one I'll revisit on its own much. Still, a really fun album! Favorite tracks: Awful, Playing Your Song

Siembra by Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
Feb 22 2026

I love how clearly the personality of these performers shines through my lack of Spanish-language knowledge. There's clear joy and power here even when the lyrics themselves are heavier. It's extremely not my kind of music, but it's so obvious why this album is on the list.
