The Chronic by Dr. Dre

Im pretty sure nobody’s reading my reviews, but: I’m listening to the songs, rating them as I go and then listen to the album a second time to give an overall rating. I’m not a music expert, just here for the ride. 1. the chronic: Intro - it’s an intro, it sets the mood for the album, calls out other rappers, what more should there be in a gangster Rap intro? It’s Dre in the end… 6/10 2. Fuck Wit Dre Day (And Everybodies Celebratin) - Phat baseline, love it, not so fond of the first verse, but Snoop carries hard, I think 7/10 3. Let me ride - chill beat, love the bass line, chorus is nice and melodic 7/10 (reevaluate) 4. The Day the Niggaz took over - Strong intro, don’t love the flow at the beginning, bass is fire again, a bit much in the interlude, was okay 6.5/10 5. Nuthin’ but a “G” Thang - old classic, isn’t it? Nostalgia about NfS Underground 2 is hitting hard 7.5/10 (saved) 6. Deez Nuuuts - funny for the memes, but realistically I would go through the intro in a shuffled playlist; but nice beat, I like the sung parts, it’s really nice, sad that the intro is so long 6.5/10 7. Lil Ghetto Boy - kinda chill, can imagen myself listening to that on a roadtrip 6.5/10 (reevaluate) 8. A Nigga Witta Gun - all that AK-47 Talk is getting kinda old…, not really interesting anymore tbh 6/10 9. Rat-tat-tat-tat - kinda repetitive, especially with the weird samples in between, not my style I guess 5/10 10. The 20$ Sack Pyramid - meh. 1/10 11. Lyrical Gangbang - love the intro, lady of rage part is nice, homophobia didn’t age well tho 6.5/10 (reevaluate) 12. High Powered - feels like an interlude, doesn’t add much, flow and rhymes are whack 5/10 13. The Doctors Office - why is that in there? What’s the point? Is it just for the “big dick energy”? 2/10 14. Stranded on Death Row - starts off nice, I probably would have liked it more, if it was more at the beginning of the album, the AK-Talk is getting old, snoop and LoR are carrying hard 7/10 (saved) 15. The Roach: Outro - chill beat, love the sung parts, that one’s kinda cool, 7/10 (reevaluate) 16. Bitches Ain’t Shit - how often can you say bitch and talk about fucking bitches? Misogyny is big on that one, Snoops part again has the best flow 4.5/10 Overall: 6/10 Tbh, it startet out alright, hitting the nostalgia 90s spirit and reminding me of my younger years (especially NfS UG2), but it didn’t age so well (homophobia is uncool man), snoop is the main carrier, the topics are kind of repetitive… overall probably a very influential album, but I would have liked a bit more depth… Saved: 2 Reevaluate: 4

1. taxman - okayish, nice message, but nothing too fancy 6/10 2. Elenor Rigby - not really my thing I guess, but I could start liking it 7/10 (reevaluate) 3. I’m only sleeping - like the voicings, for a sad day this one’s alright 7/10 4. Love to you - oriental sounds are interesting, but nothing so much my thing, the last speed up sounds nice 5/10 5. Here, There and Everywhere - lovely love songs, 2nd guitar is not my thing, but overall very calm and relaxing 7/10 6. Yellow Submarine - old classic, it’s fun, but nothing I would actually listen to, expect for the jokes of course. Thanks Ringo for this “masterpiece” 3/10 7. She said she said - like the guitars; kinda cool 7.5/10 (reevaluate) 8. Good day sunshine - nice keyboard, groovy in parts, sometimes a bit uninspired; feels like a Beatles song I could like 7.5/10 (reevaluate) 9. And your bird can sing - feels kinda cool, but also pretty forgettable; bass is cool, but nothing too special 6/10 10. For no one - the feeling at the beginning is nice, I like the piano and the voice, the horn is a bit annoying 7/10 11. Doctor Robert - cool riff, this one I like, the interlude is great 8/10 12. I want to tell you - interesting melodies, but I don’t really get it 6.5/10 13. Got to get into my life - interesting blowing section, didn’t expect that, unusually upbeat, cool screaming part (wished it would be longer) 8/10 (saved) 14. Tomorrow never knows - a bit to experimental for my taste 4/10 Overall: 6/10 I can see how people like this, but overall I think the Beatles are massively overrated, maybe back in the days this was amazing, but it’s just not for me I guess Songs saved: 2 To be reevaluated: 3
