1001 Albums Summary

I’m a big Beatles fan so I’ve listened to most of these songs before. Some of them probably hundreds of times. I know most Beatles songs are attributed to Lennon-McCartney but let’s be real, we all know when a song is primarily written by one or the other. Most of my favorite Beatles songs are McCartney songs, with Harrison being a close second. Track 2 “Eleanor Rigby” is one of my all time favorite songs. I was pleasantly surprised however by the Lennon track 3, “I’m Only Sleeping” and Harrison track 12, “I Want to Tell You”. Both I’ve maybe heard one or twice before this and now I’m wondering why. Underrated!!

That opening riff! I had no idea that it was Sister Sledge. Although truth be told, I’m a 90s kid so the first time I ever heard it was being sampled by Will Smith on “Gettin’ Jiggy With It.” The title track holds a special place in my heart because it was an anthem for my mother and her sisters growing up. I also really liked “Lost in the Music.” All in all a great album. Truly a vibe.

I’m only familiar with Rush’s radio hits so I was pleased to hear “Tom Sawyer” and “Limelight” on this album. I didn’t realize that Rush was a prog rock band I guess, so the instrumentals and 10 minute songs were surprising. I liked “Witch Hunt” also.
