1001 Albums Summary

First song a bit film-scorey for me. I'm enjoying the coolness of the second song a lot - very James Bond in a way. The third song is even more subtle, which I'm not sure I'm attuned to yet. The fourth song is more upbeat, very much enjoying it after the quietude of track three - still, I don't know that bigger jazz like this is my thing. Onto the fifth song, it's fun, but I'm not so into that classic jazz 'walking up and down' double bass line - I would put this in a similar category to the last song, but it's definitely more interesting, and I like it more. Teddy the Toad was interesting, but not very. Whirly-Bird definitely leans more into the big band element of things, which, again, I'm not a huge fan of. I like a more subtle jazz number, though not so subtle as track three. Really enjoying Midnite Blue - super sexy and fun, slow-building and then explosive - might be my favourite so far, but I'll go back to Duet just to be sure. Splanky and Fantail weren't particularly inspiring to me, as a non-big-band-lover, but they were certainly fun. The final song, Lil' Darlin' is sweet and slow, and quite a lovely closer. The best tracks were Duet and Midnite Blue, the worst were The Kid from Red Bank and After Supper. 7/10 overall, I reckon.

So awesome the way through, truly. Some epic bass lines, and some incredible vocals. The best songs are Rock With You, Get on the Floor, Don't Stop Til You Get Enough, and Burn This Disco Out. The ones I didn't love as much were Girlfriend, I Can't Help It, and It's the Falling in Love, though these were still good songs.

Wow, this album has a seriously crazy dip in quality during the second half. The first half has some bangers, such as Mr Brightside, Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine, and Somebody Told Me, but beyond track five, it takes a pretty significant dip, and I struggled to really enjoy any of the songs beyond them being catchy, generic rock songs one might hear in a B-movie or at a wedding. Some of the songs are seriously too long - even the good ones are sometimes overshadowed by this. Believe Me Natalie is lowkey painful. All These Things I've Done is pretty awesome until 'I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier' is chanted on repeat. Each song seems to have one serious downfall. Somebody Told Me is definitely the best song. The worst are Smile Like You Mean It, On Top, and Believe Me Natalie. But you know what, I thought Everything Will Be Alright was quite interesting.

Started on a relative high with Zero. Unfortunately, many songs did not follow through on the promise of awesome indie sleaze rock that the first song made. Heads Will Roll genuinely sucks, it's so annoying. I felt the same about Dull Life. Skeletons is alright. The rest of the album varies from vaguely okay to pretty grating. Sad, as I do enjoy other Yeah Yeah Yeahs songs from other albums.

epic as hell, this would be a 9/10 if i could give half stars

I totally get why some people think this is awesome. I, unfortunately, do not. Honestly, I find it quite boring. And not all blues rock, mind you. Just this. Just The Doors. Morrison sounds so disinterested it's laughable - honestly, everyone does, besides the guitarist. Can't stand the keyboard. I enjoyed the second half of this album more than the first. The better songs were Land Ho!, The Spy, and Peace Frog. I'm still giving it a 6/10 because I think it would be way better live, and I don't think it's the worst anyway. Just considering how acclaimed The Doors are, I always expect more from them than I get.

Really gorgeous album. I would go for a 9/10. Love that each song feels like its own microcosm. Some songs are playful and fun, some are tender and lowkey, and all of them are good!

Pretty awesome, I can't lie. Bad things: some songs dragged a bit, not all of the surprises or tonal shifts landed, and oftentimes the experimental parts of the album felt unoriginal, which is a bit of a paradox, BUT, the good things: it rocked, I had a great time listening, and no song was either boring or just plain bad. Overall, really enjoyed the album - not something I would have found myself, I don't think.
