Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley

I’ve never been the biggest Elvis fan so hopefully this gives me the chance to have a second thought. Immediately the album cover is iconic, obviously the inspiration for the Clash’s London Calling Blue Suede Shoes - one of the Elvis songs that I actually liked before listening to it. I mean who doesn’t like it I’m Counting On You - a very 50s ballad and honestly very beautiful I’ve never heard this before but I actually love it I Got A Woman - icl I only knew this song from The Beatles cover (sorry Elvis I’m biased I prefer the Bugs 😭) One-Sided Love Affair - idrk what to say about this one I just think it’s very stereotypical 50s rock n roll I Love You Because - I actually kinda love his voice in this. I think I prefer his slower songs idk if that’s a common thought but it’s mine Just Because - why can I actually imagine how he was moving when he was recording this 😭 this one’s kind of a vibe I’m not against it Tutti Frutti - immediately no lil rich for the win. Feels illegal to listen to a white boy cover this song lwk 😭 Trying To Get To You - again a slower one of his songs I like this one too. I might not be the biggest Elvis fan but I do have to admit he has a DAMN strong voice I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Cry (Over You) - hmm again it’s very stereotypically 50s Rock n Roll I get it was probably influential at the time but today I think it just gets overshadowed by other things I’ll Never Let You Go - I honestly think his voice is better suited for ballads this is beautiful I’ve never heard it before o Blue Moon - a classic but I also first heard it from the Beatles 😭 Elvis’ version is very different to theirs though it’s more simple not a very long song but it felt like it sorry Elvis Money Honey - I knew exactly how this was going to sound before I even listened to it 😭 not too bad though Sorry guys this hasn’t changed my mind much about Elvis I know he has a great voice but I can’t get over the amount of songs he’s stolen from black artists so for that reason it’s gonna be 2 stars. I just think there are other people more influential from that decade that actually wrote their own songs

Purple Rain by Prince
Apr 16 2026

Prince obviously one of THE guitar greats Let’s Go Crazy - iconic intro and song in general. Very nostalgic for me. Was EXTREMELY hard to resist getting up to dance to this. I had to re play several times after I finished the album because I love it so much OH NO LETS GO CRAZY Take Me With U - another 80s classic iconic synth and violin? accents. Definitely an essential also had to re listen to this The Beautiful Ones - love the beat very 80s with the reverb. On the slower end very beautiful (pun not intended) not so many lyrics and more of Princes ad libs picks up more at the end. Not one of my favourites but still great. Computer Blue - experimental and, well, computery. Crazy guitar work in the middle. not one I’ve particularly listened to before but glad I have now. Could definitely imagine this in some sort of 80s teen movie. Love how the guitar and synth work together in the last quarter Darling Nikki - love the transition from Computer Blue. Not as flashy so to say as the others (obviously still flashy obviously because it’s prince but just not as much as the others). Nvm it picks up towards the end I take it back. Not a song that particularly stands out to me unfortunately though When Doves Cry - BANGER THE GUITAR AT THE BEGINNING instantly recognisable. Definitely busting out the dad dance moves for this one. The layered vocals tickles me I love them. One of the most recognisable synth parts. Longer than I remember it being but even better because it’s a banger. I Would Die 4 You - VERY synth heavy. YET ANOTHER BANGER bro was genuinely cooking so hard with this album. Definitely gonna be stuck in my head for the next few hours Baby I’m A Star - baby he IS a star fr. Drums are THE main character. Woah love the bridge? Synth solo EATS DOWNNN. Interesting panning of voice lines Purple Rain - best till last amirite. Still kinda traumatised by its use in Stanger Things. Never fails to make me tear up on the first chord insane contrast to the first track. A BELTER for sure. GOD ITS SO POWERFUL. IRS SUCH A SHAME OUR FRIENDSHIP HAD TO END PURPLE RAIN PURPLE RAIN. GOOOOODDDDDDD. Absolute masterpiece guitar work amazing as always from prince. If I weren’t in public listening to this rn I would be on the floor in tears. As I can’t do that I will just stare off into space. Whole album hit after hit. (Love the album cover too 🤭 would definitely love to add it to my record collection). 10000% deserves the hype it gets.

Tommy by The Who
Apr 17 2026

Ok guys I know this isn’t the best who album but Jesus you guys are some negative Nancys fr 😭 Overture - instantly recognisable trumpets. Awesome harmonies. Gnarly drums. Love how occasionally the guitar echoes parts later on in the album eg. 3:26 echoes Pinball Wizard It’s a boy - Mrs walker it’s a boy frrr not much to say because it’s only 40 seconds long 1921 - 21 was not in fact gonna be a good year poor Tommy 😔 Amazing Journey - Tommy character properly introduced and tells us the essential part. That he’s deaf, dumb, and blind Sparks - can really hear the bass in the beginning which I love. Not sure what else to say because it’s an instrumental Eyesight to the blind - LOVE this one SO MUCH Christmas - AH AHA AHAH poor Tommy doesn’t even know it’s Christmas 😔 guys Tommy can’t hear you or see you I promise Cousin Kevin - bro poor Tommy leave him alone tf The Acid Queen - breaking news guys disabled people are actually alive Underture - BASS YES JOHN if there’s one thing I absolutely LOVE about the who it’s the AWESOME bass. Lwk tempted to learn this as a bassist myself. GAH DAMN this is a long song I never realised how long it actually is Do You Think It’s Alright - NO ITS NOT ALRIGJT KEEP UNCLE ERNIE AWAY FROM HIM Fiddle About - makes me SO uncomfortable although I guess that’s the point justice for Tommy wtf guys Pinball Wizard - guys this deaf dumb and blind kid can sure play some MEAN PINBALL. The concept of Roger Daltrey completely DESTROYING Elton John in a game of pinball. A belter for SURE There’s a Doctor - can this doctor cure Tommy? Who knows? Go To The Mirror? - kept forgetting to pay attention to the lyrics I love the guitar and the melody Tommy Can You Hear Me? - ok well what if he doesn’t want to 🤨 he probably hates all of you goddamn. So annoying. Smash The Mirror - I mean yeah I wouldn’t blame him for only looking at himself if I were him I wouldn’t want to look at any of you. Great you broke the mirror cool. Sensation - yes lad use your fans for good Miracle cure - not much to say literally 12 seconds long Sally Simpson - it’s alright Sally better luck next time 😔 I’m Free - let’s go bro so close to the end !! end links back to pinball wizard Welcome - preach Tommy fr Tommys Holiday Camp - goofy ass tune fr 😭 like pop off I guess guys We’re Not Gonna Take It - YES AMAZING FINAL SONG I LOVE THIS ONE. Defo one of my favs on this album. I love how it echoes the Overture trumpets. I’m gonna give it 3 stars I love it but I just think that the Who have better albums (my favourite being Quadrophenia). Felt slightly illegal to listen to the album without the film (the film is lwk super goofy but I still love it 😭)

Apr 19 2026

Not my usual genre to listen to so I’m excited to see what this is like !! So far it’s really great I love the early rap/hip hop sound. They have some sick beats. I love the lyrics too I like how they’re protesting against the backlash rap got at the time.

Here's Little Richard by Little Richard
Apr 20 2026

NICE now THIS is what I’m talking about. I got Elvis the other day unfortunately and made a point of mentioning the legend that is Little Richard!!! Tutti Frutti - what a BANGER no one sings the song better that Little Richard True Fine Mama - love the call and response I Can’t Believe You Wanna Leave - LOVE what the instruments are playing in this Ready Teddy - similar to Tutti Frutti in a way it’s the same sort of upbeat 50s rock & roll Baby - ooh I like this one I like how he uses a different part of his voice sweet Slippin’ And Slidin’ - nice 12 bar blues would definitely recommend to new musicians trying to get to grips with different styles particularly bassists Long Tall Sally - A CLASSIC YES. Admittedly I do originally know this song from the Beatles but like Tutti Frutti you can’t beat Little Richard’s the rasp in his voice is perfect and the WOOOOS clean clean clean Miss Ann - gotta love a good sax solo Oh Why? - he uses his higher whinier voice like in Baby which I love Rip It Up - ANOTHER great classic Jenny Jenny - powerful voice She’s Got It - quite similar to Long Tall Sally Overall I love it and much more deserving of its place here than Elvis sorry 😭 it’s not a long album which is typical of the era and I’m not mad about it it’s quick and snappy. Love how upbeat everything is and I think Little Richard is definitely one of the greats

Tres Hombres by ZZ Top
Apr 21 2026

Quite tragic that I didnt have a beer and a cigarette whilst I was listening to this 😔 makes me feel like a 50 year old Texan dad (I’m a 17 year old girl) La Grange is a timeless classic love it 🔥

Apr 22 2026

Haven’t listened to muse for AGES. They’re okay but they just kinda give off rebellious 14 year old. Idk something’s off but they’re still ok. My favourites: Starlight Map of the Problematique

Play by Moby
Apr 23 2026

I genuinely have never listened to a single one of mobys songs so this is exciting. Hm it’s very repetitive to say the least. Very 90s I feel like even though I haven’t heard many of OH PORCELAIN IVE HEARD THIS NVM. My parents were big partiers in the 90s so this is one of the essential tracks they would play in the kitchen when I was younger. I think I’ve heard rushing too. Bodyrock is cool I like it. I also know Natural Blues. Overall it’s a VERY long album and it’s alright there are quite a few bangers but I don’t think it’s something I would listen to regularly.

Electric Music For The Mind And Body by Country Joe & The Fish
Apr 24 2026

YES some 1967 this is PERFECT my favourite year of music I can already tell I’m going to be adding a BUNCH of these songs to my playlist. I also already love Country Joe & The Fish. Literally ticks all the boxes for me. 1967, psychedelic, guitar solos and drugs. Love.

Hotel California by Eagles
Apr 25 2026

OMG WHAT IS MY LUCK I LOVE HOTEL CALIFORNIA. the eagles are one of my top favourite bands of all time and hotel California is one of my detault records so I listen to it all the time. My favs are New Kid In Town, Life In The Fast Lane (ultimate driving song), Try and Love Again and of course Hotel California

Apr 26 2026

Might have to add this to my list of records to collect I love the early 70s psych. I actually really love this My favs are Animal Zoo,

I'm Your Man by Leonard Cohen
Apr 27 2026

Idk about this one I’ve been trying to get more into Leonard Cohen but I feel like this was just a little bit boring and I got distracted very easily. Maybe I’ll give it another try in the future

Apr 28 2026

NO NOT COLDPLAY I THOUGHT MY DAY COULDNT GET ANY WORSE AND NOW IT HAS. I guess Clocks and The Scientist are alright but I just really really hate Coldplay it’s all just millennial junk and not the good kind 😭 I’m sure they’re lovely guys though. Music not so much.

Elastica by Elastica
