1001 Albums Summary

Feel like I've heard of the first song "Chan Chan" and definately "El Cuarto de Tula". I like its Cuban style tune and rythm, and I felt like I could see the mango trees in the heat wave. Gives me hope on such a gloomy Scottish day. Fun facts: The ensemble was named after an actual members-only club in Havana from the 1930s–50s, the Buenavista (good view) Social Club, that was shut down after the Cuban Revolution. The entire album was just recorded in six days!

My friend who's a genuine Prince fan would probably like this album more than I do. Some of the songs are pretty funky, most of them very sexy. I mean I do like some of the them, such as "Free" and "Little Red Corvette", but after all I just don't get it.

Sooo this is Soul I like the simple but effective grooves, the sax and piano tunes, and most importantly the vocal. I've definitely heard of "Let's Stay Together" somewhere before without knowing the whole album. There're some other nice songs as well; it's just that after some point they kinda sound the same to me.

First time listening to Depeche Mode and I'm genuinely impressed. If not because of this website, I might never find this album. There are so many good tracks in this album, especially love "Little 15" and "Pimpf"; the later one (instrumental with some chanting) is so dramatic and unnerving. The opening song "Never Let Me Down Again" somehow reminds me of "Cities in Dust" by Siouxsie & The Banshees...

One of my favourite albums back in high school, although I wasn't even born in the 90s. Love the melody, distorted guitar, Billy Corgan's vocal, the drums, lyrics, everything. The emotions are raw, sometimes in an intense way, and others more melancholic and vulnerable. No more needs to be said. It's just superb. p.s. didn't get the smashing pumpkins 2026 uk tour tickets... :/
