Love the song “Half” and “Fell on Black Days”. How the heavy drums kick in at the 2:50 mark of “Let me drown” is beautiful. The first minute and a half of “4th of July “ is haunting and powerful.

I like the atmosphere of the album. Its artificial, upbeat, bloated, energetic soundscape sheds light to the desperate darkness which surrounds it.

“Beetlebum” wouldn’t sound too out of place in the white album. I like the vibe of “Country Sad Ballad Man”, although it goes too electric at the end. I can see the album’s energetic appeal but it’s not as unique as the album “13”.

I guess “Baby me mine” is pleasant. Half the songs on this album are so overused, I don’t really feel anything when listening to it. I don’t necessarily feel that way on every overused classic song so I guess that isn’t just the problem. Paul and Micheal’s conversation is weird.

I can’t tolerate this cheap sounding disco music. To name a few, I hate the melody of “a different point of view”. And the sound effect on the chorus of “yesterday” is unbearably cheesy. Overall, this album was not for me at all. I can see that some of the songwriting is pretty good and the contrast of the lyrics and the sound may interest some. But the lame disco sound was too overpowering.

I love the Beastie boys, and this rap album sounds like a watered down version of them. But 3 stars considering these guys did it first.
