Moondance by Van Morrison
May 15 2026

I enjoyed this album way more than I expected to. Very chill, very laid back, and rather soulful. The saxophone solo playing leaves a bit to be desired, but it’s used sparingly, so it’s not too much of a distraction. Overall, a rather enjoyable listen. I will definitely listen to this again.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
May 16 2026

Absolutely brilliant! Keith Jarrett is a genius. A simply stunning album from beginning to end.

Since I Left You by The Avalanches
May 17 2026

Cool, chill grooves. Somewhat repetitious. Typical DJ dance mix fare.

The Wildest! by Louis Prima
May 19 2026

This is such a fun album, with some really great playing. I was familiar with quite a few of the tunes, but had never listened to the album in its entirety. Definitely worth the listen. Fun party music or a great pick me up.

Real Life by Magazine
May 21 2026

Interesting “punk” album with a rather eclectic sound, great production value, some fairly good musicianship at times, typical talking vocal stylings for the genre, and some of the worst saxophone playing ever to be recorded. A fun listen overall, but I would not consider this to be one of my personal 1001 albums to hear before you die.

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
May 23 2026

A simply stunning performance, and an absolutely gorgeous recording.

Midnight Ride by Paul Revere & The Raiders
May 24 2026

I really struggled with this album. There’s much to love about it, but it also often sounds like a band trying to copy the sound of the Beatles and the Beach Boys. There’s some great songwriting on this album, and some really bad songwriting as well, so I’m a bit torn. I don’t think I would include it in my personal list of 1001 albums you need to listen to before you die.

Too Rye Ay by Dexys Midnight Runners
May 25 2026

Bad. Repetitious, harmonically juvenile, minimal melodic content. Just… Very bad. I do like the horn parts, except for when they are soloing (who needs a key signature?) and there’s some fun, upbeat stuff, but overall, it’s just really bad. This album makes me question the validity of this entire book. How could this possibly be on of the 1001 most important albums to listen to?
