Born To Run
by Bruce Springsteen
Listening to Born to Run for the first time, I can see why it’s iconic, but it really didn’t do much for me. The whole album leans heavily into this romanticized, youthful American dream aesthetic that feels more cinematic than emotionally real to me — like the soundtrack to a ’90s coming-of-age romcom. The production is big and energetic, but the songs themselves didn’t leave much of an impression, and Springsteen’s voice just isn’t for me. I’ve heard plenty of rock albums that tackle similar themes with more depth or personality. Not bad, just pretty mid overall.
