Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz
Jun 05 2026

Thank God for jazz Some nice jazz It's kind of funny at moments and I haven't figured out if it's on purpose Will listen again sometime A solid 3,5/5

Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
Jun 06 2026

I'd like this more if I were high I had fun listening, even though the audio quality was strangely atrocious at times, but a few hours later nothing has stuck with me

Top 3 Dylans for me. I love it when he gets electric but Side B in particular is so strong here (3 out of 4 easily could be called some of his best work and Gates of Eden is also there). Also I really really really love the cover art.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac

This one has some great songs and some really weak songs. It's a good listen but I believe the lore is why people are obsessed. Slap Silver Springs and a Planets of the Universe demo on this puppy and the rating goes up a whole star.

The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails
Jun 09 2026

Surprisingly for me I enjoyed this. Not as heavy in sound as I expected. Might come back to this, but I fear I'm too gay and well-adjusted to truly get into it. The one chill instrumental track (A Warm Place?) was so lovely. (my second NIN album after the Tron Ares ost lmao).

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Jun 10 2026

This is such a cool album.

Ace of Spades by Motörhead
Jun 11 2026

Could not finish. Boring dad rock, every song sounds the same, the vocals are a whole struggle bus. Not for me.

This is very okay (will probably not listen again), and the second half built and built, concluding the album much better than it started. Overall I felt like the production on these tracks muddied the waters too much, and neither the voice nor the music had a chance of standing out. I am surprised that it could be considered an "essential" album but I don't regret listening to it. It's nice to know that there will at least be some non-old-white-dudes on this journey.

Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf
Jun 13 2026

This is so melodramatic and overwrought that it becomes funny at some point. It sounds like a parody of what it should be.

A Little Deeper by Ms. Dynamite
Jun 14 2026

Overlong for how little variety it offers, but it's so smooth and, at times, genuinely affecting. I had a consistently good time with this record. And hallelujah at last something that's not dad rock!

Elephant Mountain by The Youngbloods
Jun 15 2026

More 🥱 😴. Another album that just confuses me: how is this essential listening? It's at most pleasant and inoffensive.

She's So Unusual by Cyndi Lauper
Jun 16 2026

There are three stone cold classic hits on this one, and the album cuts are almost just as good. So much fun.

The Man Who by Travis
Jun 17 2026

I get why some people would like it but I think it's so so so boring.
