Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Jul 09 2026

Inventive, interesting, wish he would have done Missouri and Florida as well. "Chicago," "Decatur," "Jacksonville," "Casimir Pulaski Day" are all great. I think the album runs out of gas about 2/3 of the way in but Sufjan is unique in his sonic soundscapes. Wish he had done a song about my hometown, Olney, and their white squirrels, LOL. Missed him in STL in 2006 touring this album because we had just moved into Bella Luna, our home. Love his first Christmas collection and recommend it to everyone.

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Jul 13 2026

One of the best albums by the Stones in the 60s---although unlike so many people, I love Satanic Majesties Request. How they were able to record "Goin' Home" at 11 minutes---broke barriers even though I find it boring. "Lady Jane," "Mother's Little Helper," "Under My Thumb" are the standouts for me.

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk
Jul 14 2026

I liked it and can see the great influence they had on all my favorite New Wave groups.

A Love Supreme by John Coltrane
Jul 16 2026

What can one say? It's from God and St. John Coltrane channeled it.

No Other by Gene Clark
Jul 17 2026

This guy never got the respect he deserved. Bravo, Gene Clark of Tipton, MO!

Van Halen by Van Halen
Jul 20 2026

One of the best debut albums of all time.

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Jul 21 2026

Never have listened to a full album. I like the more “modern” songs than her more traditional takes.

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Jul 22 2026

I liked it! Have never listened to a full album by the Isleys. Love the groove.

Red Dirt Girl by Emmylou Harris
Jul 23 2026

I listened to this in a Barnes and Noble in 2000 and knew I had to buy it. As someone who was not a country fan, the Malcom Burns production—like Lanois’ on Wrecking Ball-puts Emmylou in a whole other universe. Plus, Emmylou’s songs are so good—her first album that she wrote almost every song except a great Patty Griffin song. Magnificent.

Triangle by The Beau Brummels
Jul 24 2026

I think the Moody Blues did this kind of music better.

On The Beach by Neil Young
Jul 27 2026

I’m a Neil fan but the general public should like this “ditch” album. I like it much better than Tonight’s the Night, which gets all the accolades from this era.

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Jul 28 2026

The guy was a genius. Great album.

Sulk by The Associates
Jul 29 2026

The 80s are my fav music era when I came of age. There are so many better new wave albums than this….

Led Zeppelin III by Led Zeppelin
Jul 30 2026

Zeppelin experiments with folk. Great stuff. “That’s the Way” was on our wedding playlist.

Spiderland by Slint
Jul 31 2026

Uh, I guess I get why this is influential. Definitely different.

Kid A by Radiohead
Aug 03 2026

When I heard it in 2000, I didn't really like it. Now I get why it was seen as so influential.

All Directions by The Temptations
Aug 04 2026

Pretty decent. I like their psychedelic music.
