Umm, I mean it is what I expected from Korn (though I haven't listened much). Not the worst album ever but had some surprising highs and lows. A for sure low is All in the Family (and Jonathan Davis agrees). Is this what the 90's were like? White boys rapping terribly and calling each other gay? Funny that that song is only a couple tracks after a genuinely respected rapper in the hip-hip space makes it on a track. And I didn't even hate it that much. It was a much need break from JD's voice. It just sounds like he's really horny and in pain when he's not screaming. It's bearable for a song or two, but an hour? No thank you. While I can appriciate it for being a pioneer in nu-metal, and the obvious influence of hip-hip (and bagpipes too?) it's not my style and feels very much like white boy music for white boys to listen to. I felt nothing listening to this and honestly a bit insulted as a woman. I don't think this aged well or is worth another listen.

Tapestry by Carole King
Jul 09 2026

Went into this album with no expectations, and it started off great! I Feel the Earth Move is a great album opener and the next few songs were a bit milder but still good. Overall a pretty easy listen, but I doubt I will be really reaching for it again, it's not really my style. But I understand why it might be here, and it has not a single bad song on it. I think the production is very good and her vocals are definitely a high note of this piece.

Pearl by Janis Joplin
Jul 10 2026

This is a great rock and roll record! I'd heard of Janis, but I'd never listened to any of her work. She's got an incredible powerful voice and blues influence adds a great touch to this piece. It gets a pit honky tonk towards the middle with Me and Bobby McGee and Mercedes Benz, which brings this record down for me a little. Overall a great album which I forsee myself relistening to (albeit a few skips).

Harvest by Neil Young
Jul 11 2026

I think this album sounds stunning. It's a little bit more country leaning than truly rock, but I like the rock instruments in this setting, because the bass is very strong (a personal preference of mine). It alternates between a very rustic sound and and a theatrical one, but somehow it works. The final song Words is a really fantastic unique song that highlights the rock elements well. Though it was a very mellow, country rock album, which isn't my style, I kinda liked it. Probably wouldn't listen to the whole piece through again, though.

Synchronicity by The Police
Jul 12 2026

Ok, I fell asleep while listening to it, SORRY! But I never was super keen on The Police to begin with so I was never expecting to fall in love with this album anyway. I'll Be Watching You is a classic (duh) but nothing else really stuck out too much. I like the nontraditional rhythmics, like the first two songs felt very inspired by African percussion IMO. Otherwise it's kinda like a normal soft rock album, besides Mother. Maybe my rating would be different if I really listened, but I really cannot be bothered.

Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
Jul 13 2026

Disk one might be as close to a 10/10 as possible IMO. I have been meaning to listen to Led Zeppelin for a while now, and had no reason to dislike their style and music which has been proven to me after this listen. Some songs are very long, which is about my only complaint because I like it short and sweet, but this album makes it work (I listened to the entirety of an eleven minute song for this). Guitar work is excellent, as expected and each preceding song had a unique riff and drew me in every time. Second disk was a little less my speed so this is really a 4.5. But it was still good, and had some songs worth a second listen to. If I had an hour and a half maybe I'd listen to the entirety, but the highlight was always disk 1.

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Jul 14 2026

I've been meaning to listen to some of Elvis Costello's work and this is an amazing album to start with. It started so upbeat and good, then just kept going. I was waiting for a bad song and it never came. It's really nice rock and roll that's definitely up my alley, with some keyboard in it that reminds me of The Doors. Not a miss on this album, and I'd be shocked if I never listen to it again.

Close To You by Carpenters
Jul 15 2026

This album is very easy to listen to, and I can understand the wide appeal. Karen's voice is buttery and rich and the arrangements that accompany it are good as well. But I think it's mass appeal does bring it down in my opinion, as no songs stood out for me until the last few. The beginning lacked some intrigue, but it was quick and palletable enough to endure it. The cover of Help had my head shoot up, because I didn't expect it at all, but it was fine (I feel that there are very few Beatles covers that are better than the originals). Might listen again, but I think once is enough to get an idea of The Carpenters.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
Jul 16 2026

This is defintely a first on my journey through these albums, with the complete lack of vocals/lyrics and a composition that remains songless and on a single instrument. Was it terrible, no I found a perfectly fine time to listen to it during my reading which was suitable. However, when I seek to listen to an album I am seeking an artists intentianl craft of a series of songs that comtribute to an overall sound and hopefully message. This was not that. I likely would only relisten as background noise, or to accompnay an activity in which lyrics or signifigant changes between sounds would be disruptive, like reading or writing.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Jul 17 2026

I feel like this album encapsulated the entire point of discovering these albums. I not only went into this album excited, but also looking forward to a stream of heavy distorted guitar metal. Not only was I delightfully surprised to find some classic Black Sabbath, but also an incredibly iconic piano ballad in Changes, but also some other lighter instrumental only tracks. I really enjoyed this listen, it felt like it really flew by without much effort and I will likely reach for it again.

American Idiot by Green Day
Jul 18 2026

What can I say? This is exactly what I want from an album. Loved it so much I relistened to the entire thing. Great energetic punk record with some fun guitars and lyrics, but doesn’t shy from getting emotional and slowing things down. Sounds so Green Day, but in the best way possible. Would be shocked if I never picked this up again. Also just becoming so relevant in regard to modern times 😬.

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Jul 20 2026

Another album without lyrics/vocals, but I thought the instrumentation was interesting enough to warrant listening. Good vibe, and makes for great accompanyment/background noise in an unbeat way. I could hear the jazz influence, but also how this might make a predecessor to disco later in the decade. Might listen again.

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Jul 21 2026

Didn't really stand out for me much, some good songs (I had listene to the band before). I liked the incorporation of the electronic elements, felt natural and not overwhelming, complemented the band well. I'd listen again.

Dog Man Star by Suede
Jul 22 2026

I actually really liked this record. I had heard of Suede within the britpop space, but had never given a listen. Needed a relisten to really form an opinion, but it feels like a David Bowie take on Oasis, if that makes any sense. The guitar tone really reminded me of an Oasis song I heard earlier today. But has a dramatasism and exaggeration and orchestral identity that felt so glam rock/Bowie. Long record, but would listen again.

Brothers by The Black Keys
Jul 23 2026

It's really good, with some memorable guitar riffs that carry you through. I like how dark the guitars sound, almost reminicent of heavy metal/ Black Sabbath-esque tone. I can't say the lyrics or vocal stood out too much, but the musicality of the album was good enough, it doesn't matter much. Would listen again.

Among The Living by Anthrax
Jul 26 2026

It's a very middle of the road metal ablum. I didn't feel any of the sounds or production was anything special. And in retrospect none of the somgs stand out much or are very memorable. It's fine, but not really my thing.

Is This It by The Strokes
Jul 28 2026

Didn't even need to listen to this bad boy, cause I know like every song by heart. Even just saw them in concert like a month ago. I know this album didn't reinvent rock or anything, but it didn't need to. It's just good music. Will always be one of my fav albums of all time, and is never not the mood. Just so versatile and listenable (and relistenable). Love the minimal production on it, sounds a bit grunge-y in that sense (RIP NYC Cops). No notes, just will be listening to this forever and ever.
