Here's Little Richard by Little Richard
Jul 29 2026

I hate this. Every song has the same melody, the shrieks are awkward and I genuinely can’t tell the difference between several of these songs. This album gets high praise for little Richard’s being a rock pioneer, and that’s cool, but it doesn’t make the music sound good.

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
Jul 30 2026

Quintessential soul. Obviously “You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman” is an all time classic. Chain of Fools felt like the perfect opener and it set the tone for the remainder of the LP. Aretha’s voice is unmatched and the energy she puts into this is remarkable. Really easy listening while also staying interesting. I had to listen to “Here’s Little Richard” before this so anything following that album will sound this good, but Lady Soul is a timeless work by one of the best to ever do it.

The Score by Fugees
Jul 31 2026

I can’t lie, I’m not the target audience here. That doesn’t mean I can’t acknowledge that for its time it was groundbreaking, and I can really appreciate the sampling and the flows are nice at points. Really like “The Beast” as it just hit hard and had a solid consistent theme despite the several artists featured. Lauryn Hill is a genius and elevates most of the songs here simply by her presence. Killing Me Softly is beautiful and I wish Lauryn Hill would sing more, this song has aged best from the rest of the album. With that being said, some of the bars here don’t land like I wish they could. Slang is a revolving door and lyrics like “my crew is so fly” and using the term MC feels prehistoric. I don’t know which one Wyclef is, but the Jamaican guy can be obnoxious and the more plain rapper can get stale. The overall thematic is “cops bad” which I find low hanging fruit. Maybe I just don’t understand what’s going on here but it’s also hard to sympathize with people who are massively successful singers singing about struggle. Not for me but I fully understand the skill and wordplay here is next level.

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
Aug 03 2026

I didn’t finish this admittedly. It wasn’t bad, and it was fun that this was a live album and gave some glimpse into how people talked in 1957. It’s very easy listening and Sarah Vaughn has a moving voice. I just found this to be something I’d have on in the background but not think much about. Plenty of need for albums like that but it was hard listening intentionally on my commute.

I didn’t listen much. Not my thing

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
Aug 05 2026

This album obviously has so many hits like shout and everybody wants to rule the world and one other one I can’t remember, and I really appreciate that. Tears for Fears kept this at eight songs. They chose their best eight and I admire that because too many albums are bloated and include way too many tracks. This is just personal preference and I don’t love music in the 80s just cause it gives me a funny feeling. This is sort of like how I feel about the Peche mode. Good album, but it’s not one that I’m going to go back to and listen to all the way through again. Head over heels as a bop. Writing this review as I drive with voice text.

Drunk by Thundercat
Aug 06 2026

This is a crazy album experience. I need to do a better job of listening through the entire album and while this one didn’t exceed an hour, they did have a lot of tracks and some of them I went back and replayed instead of going through and hearing out the remainder.. them changes as obviously well known and its own right maybe not for being an amazing song but because of the way it’s been memes. I feel like Thundercat has no problem with his music being memed to some degree because there’s so many songs here that he doesn’t appear to be taking seriously whether it be a goofy beat or some kind of sarcastic or un serious verse. It was fun to listen to though and I think that’s a quality that some of the albums here have messed up to this point. It was a unique experience and an album that I will return to.
