1001 Albums Summary

idk like 3/5 or somehting. this is fine. it is just fine. some highlights here and there. Somehow this is the first Santana album I'm hearing. Always wanted to get into this guy's stuff even if he is a bit of a dick so I'm happy. Tr1: bit of a slow start , but ooh minute and a half and we get those congas? going with the lil tinkling piano notes? it's of course at this point that i turn around and reveal i never knew they were initially very psychedelic, but i fuckin dig it. those swirling saxs!! whilst the drums keep us steady and locked in...this is real good so far. tr2: love a smooth transition like that. the title is a bit uhhhh.... but regardless. oh never mind hes singing it hrm, well, the 70s, i guess. everything else is very nice. got that chill latin sound going, punctuated by the iconic guitarwork from carlos. oughh that closer of the rest of gpc queen tho!! dang tr3: no transition here, kind of a blunt intro. anyway this one is a classic track that ive def heard before in some other context, but apparently despite not making it, it was this cover that shot it to stardom. neat! tr4: pleasant enough little instrumental track. starts off intense and then gets more chill as it goes on. lil jazzy with it. it is perfectly fine yes tr5: kinda came and went without me having much to say on it tr6: i love the sped up lil bits between verses. i wish more of the album was like this. this is by far the most notable track so far fo rme. tr7: shrug! tr8: this is...a very generic hard rock song? weird. gets more interesting near the end but eh tr9: what a sneeze of a track to end it on lol

okay forgot that the listening notes were published alongside my ratings, didnt know i couldnt alter after the fact. well, now i know. album #2. yay. i'm gonna join in on the slight confusion as to why this is even in the list at all because it's like....whatever? its kind of a platonic idealisation of jack white's sound which is nice but the problem there is it sounds like jack white, because it is, and as a result it sounds like everything else the guy ever made. its fine. unremarkable at best. sixteen saltines and freedom at 21 made me wish i was playing burnout paradise, though, so thats something. hypocritical kiss is the standout track for me, the rest i could kinda take or leave i think. hip eponymous poor boy is SUPER grating wow. honestly think you could cut out the last four tracks if only because it really outstays its welcome by that point. if you want my hottest take? his 2018 song "over and over and over" beats basically the entirety of this album hands down.

Very much something that speaks for itself to the point that I don't really have much else to chip in. UHhhh....this p much set the template for all singer-songwriter music's sound for the next decade and a bit, her voice is fucking gorgeous, i love how the lyrics have varying degrees of sublety regarding their content and what they're about, "behind the wall" being acapella was incredibly smart and its ridiculously fucking haunting and brilliant. this one very much deserves its place in the list easily.

iiii already knew i didnt really care for country, this p much seals it in. every track sounds identical to me here and its not helped by the short average length with every track basically having the exact same amount of pause between them as a regular verse, giving this weird feeling of everything being this one incredibly long track, much like this sentence. anyway yeah sorry this is just kinda very unnotable and nothing to me

scarborough fair/canticle is probably one of the most perfect album openers ever, especially since the rest of the album follows the same level of quality, lush production and vocal harmonies. also love all the restrained yet ascerbic lyricism in several tracks

i dont think this is his strongest showing of what hes capable of and i also think its kind of misrepresentative of him too. theres a couple nice tracks but on the whole a real lack of variety and where there is variety it usually isnt executed very well

i didnt like rhcp before going into this and with this i can confirm i still really do not care for them or their style at all

man this one is very hyped up to me and i was excited to finally get to it but i /hate/ these vocals SO much. they dont fit the vibe of the songs at all. i really wish these were just instrumental. humble beginnings for sure, but trip-hop improved tenfold after this and it makes this kind of a difficult listen if you dont have any prior feelings towards it. not to mention it kind of drops trip hop midway for other genres suddenly. like track 4 and 5 are rnb and dub-infused respectively out of nowhere. "Lately" is the closest it gets to being good but overall id strongly argue most of this has just not aged very gracefully at all.

another one of those "classic" albums which is important within the grand history of music but is relatively boring or uninteresting coming into it fresh these days. its fine. i have no idea what the fuck key she sings in in the first track though. unironically i prefer funstyle

the album is fine, it is mostly as strong as it is thanks to production that was not done by m.i.a. i mostly stand against this on account of how m.i.a. - despite her roots, despite her tumultuous upbringing, despite her father's active constant service as an actual activist and peacekeeper - chose to stay rich and comfortable after getting successful and use her fame to spread anti-vax and 5g myths whilst supporting the current fascist dictator current in office. this would not be an issue normally, yknow people love doing the "separate the art from the artist" shit with music especially, but m.i.a. chose specifically to incorporate those aforementioned things into her lyrics on purpose. fuck her and her fake ass lyrics and activism.

weirdly i was familiar with cut chemist before ever listening to any jurassic 5 song, due to a peak in time being used in a tv advert in the uk. heck of a first album to listen to from them though. shame about that bill cosby sample lol
