All Things Must Pass by George Harrison
Aug 17 2026

Very underwhelming. Competent but seems very derivative. Well produced, maybe had a good write up because of the perfomer’s status rather than any real merit. 2CDs too. 1.8CDs too long

Transformer by Lou Reed
Aug 19 2026

Bowie’s production and backing vocals - I heard his voice in one track - give Reed’s lyrics an urbane sophistication to what in the early 70s must have been very radical. Great tracks, like Perfect Day. Some tracks the song structure not always up to the quality of the lyrical content

Guero by Beck
Aug 20 2026

Beck isn’t really my thing. It’s good competent, fluid, creative in a way, but I don’t know why, his alt-pop-rock leaves me a little cold, sort of urbane but soulless, a bit superficial. I can see why people would give it 4 stars but for me it’s a bit meh.

Aug 21 2026

Very good but the orchestration was a bit too commercial for me - felt like I was watching some late 50s Hollywood feel-good film. I prefer his earlier work even if it’s big band it has a more musical frame

Electric Warrior by T. Rex
Aug 24 2026

T.Rex, growing up it was a clearly identifiable artist from a different era, yet listening to it now it sounds so unique, such a personal artistic expression that now it seems less of an era.

Reggatta De Blanc by The Police
Aug 26 2026

Again needs to be taken in the context of when it came out and the excellent musicianship along with sting’s writing ability a very good album. These were the notes for the previous day’s suggestion, the ABBA Arrival that somehow were not posted there but posted here: This album was huge in the 70s, maybe it was the comprehensive studio production sound that made it sound so accomplished in the 70s - and became so ingrained in the collective musical experience - but now? A good 70s pop album but maybe more of an historical landmark than a great record

Elastica by Elastica
Aug 28 2026

Ok, quite derivative, I’m hearing the Stranglers etc. Classified as britpop ? I wouldn’t classify it as that. Maybe because some of them were ex Suede. So maybe that’s why they are in this list - they were already in the uk establishment and marketing machine. This list does seem to be more a commercially promoted list of albums rather than a collective assessment of critical musical merit.
