1001 Albums Summary

A solid swing album. Not a whole lot to note. I think the slower pieces might be the highlights for me.

Look I respect oasis immensely but I’m on team blur. This is good album don’t get be wrong, but it’s not my favorite oasis and it’s not super duper groundbreaking to me. Married with children still rules however. My big complaint is that this album is LOUD. The songs aren’t bad, but it almost hurts at points. The ending of slide away is so good and rewarding but by the time you get to it while listening to the album straight through, you almost have a headache. I know that’s also kinda their thing, but this album doesn’t earn it as much as their next would in my opinion.

I was so excited to review this. I love Pixies so much, and I love this album a lot more than most would I think. Black Francis has a voice that I LOOOOVE and I couldn’t tell you why. I think it’s the same way I love J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr and his weird voice. Kim Deal is also such a badass and her bass and vocals add so much to Pixies sound as a whole. Tracks like Velouria and Dig for Fire are obviously standout tracks for me, but I have a soft spot for Is She Weird. That chorus gets stuck in my head weekly. I’d compare this album to other albums I love, but I think this is the album that made those other albums what they are. Pixies is your favorite bands favorite band.
