Overall, I liked it, some really big layered 80s instrumentation with synths, etc, some really minimal parts. It felt like it also had a little bit if world music/African influence in some parts. All of that was good.
I think I've heard Don't Give Up and In Your Eyes before, although I haven't gone out of my way to listen to them.
I got a little bored in the middle and some of the melodies and lyrics felt a little forced.
I would've liked it better when I was young. Kinda samey, like I feel like the whole record could've been one song. Also just like extremely aggressive kinda... pointlessly?
Honestly this mostly slaps. Some "Joseph's Coat of Many Colors" Jesus type stuff in there which didn't really resonate with me. "he made me watch him love another woman and he tried to make me love another man" is a crazy lyric tbh
But as a whole yeah I'm into it
Hmm Jazz.... Honestly, this is cool, I'm vibing. But I can't really follow a real beginning-middle-end structure in jazz the same way I can in other genres. It makes me feel a little lost in all of it. Especially on this record with 20 min songs!
Reggae... not my thing exactly. I can appreciate it and do recognize this is well done though.
Ok I... liked it? I can see the influence this had on Fleet Foxes, etc. But I can't get behind these 70s jazz 7th and 9th kinda three-part harmonies. Songwriting felt a little meandering when I just want something punchy.
I'd take a Beach Boys harmony or song any day over this, even though I love a good campfire acoustic folk jam. And I'd take Fleet Foxes over it too honestly. Still giving it a 4 because it's well-executed and influential even if there are some aesthetic complaints I have.
I liked this more than I expected since I'm not usually an R&B kinda guy. Incredible energy on here, both from the performers and the crowd. I've been to the Apollo Theatre, so I can kinda relate to it that way too. I also liked the 60s sound here.

Sounds kinda cliche now honestly, but I think that's because it was pretty foundational at the time. I liked it. Not a huge fan of Bowie's voice but the whole vibe is right
The 70s just... don't do it for me on this one
Ok I like Neil Young in theory and I probably would listen again. I am giving a lot of points for songwriting and good riffs but taking some away for what feels to me like rushed recording and production. Lots of visible mistakes in here, which definitely feels human (good) but also feels non-professional (bad).
honestly, kinda liked it. 80s being 80s hard on here though. Vocally, I got Joey Ramone and Morrissey. Some ska kinda horns in there was cool actually. Every album around this time seems to need some radio tuning intro like Rock & Roll Radio

Even though rap isn't always my thing, I would listen again. Really a whole lot going on in this record artistically and I respect it
