To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar

Pre-listening: This shit better live up to all the buzz I've heard about it Update: So far, I think I'm halfway through or so, I like it a lot. Hoping it keeps up this pace. Super interesting album. Rap has been one of the most innovative genres in the past two decades imo Listened in full. Yeah it lived up lmao, I don't think it's an album I'd put on repeat all the time but it's a pretty masterful piece of art so I'm giving it my flowers first w/ the first 5 star I've given so far I was reading some of the reviews of this album and I think it's a damn shame how many people dismiss this album literally right off the bat cuz it's rap. Like literally people just being like "ewww I don't wanna listen to an album about hoes and drugs and N-words." Y'all limiting yourselves for no fucking reason or shitty reasons at least, open your minds up

Illmatic by Nas
Oct 06 2026

Pretty good, ended a bit abruptly imo but there weren't any big stinkers on the album and I think it got a good flow. I do like how earnest this album is, Nas was rlly singing his heart out on every song (plus I'm gen z so it feels like everything is soaked in so many layers of meta jokes and irony that it loops around back to earnestness and then curdles once more into irony, so any amount of sincerity in art is very appreciated). good start for the thingie

Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Oct 07 2026

I grew up with a bunch of weed smoking Indiana folks in my family so quite a few of these songs are familiar to me in some capacity. Not bad for something I'm not really into at all, I like it when Neil Young isn't singing because his voice is grating at best lmao. The harmony gets old after a while.

Axis: Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix

Tremendously talented group of musicians. Not music I'm generally interested in but for what it is I can appreciate it. Bold fucking entry for '67.

KIWANUKA by Michael Kiwanuka
Oct 09 2026

First really contemporary album (like within the last 20 years) I've gotten so far and I'm thankful for it, I get the feeling I'm gonna like it quite a bit. Update after listening: I was right modern classics never fail me, I've Been Dazed is a fantastic song

Green Onions by Booker T. & The MG's
Oct 10 2026

My word am I getting quite a few older albums. I suspect I'll be getting quite a few more. Lowk mid tbh lmao

Rio by Duran Duran
Oct 11 2026

I have a very complicated relationship with 80s electronic. Hate it sometimes and other times it's the best stuff I've ever heard. Very curious for this one. try as I might I think I gotta accept that most 80s synth pop is simply not for me, I lost interest after the first few songs. I do have an appreciate for art that seems to be a product of potentially lethal amounts of cocaine use, so props to them for that ig

Triangle by The Beau Brummels

Cute enough album. I'd call it hippie-slop as the kids say. I actually think the instrumentals are pretty nice but the singers' voice is so. not good. he's like if all the most banal parts of Bob Dylan's singing were wrung out and concentrated into one guy

With The Beatles by Beatles
Oct 14 2026

Even when I had my Beatles phase I avoided their earlier stuff. I know it was like important to the musical landscape n all but album is mid at best when listening with a modern ear (okay okay Please Mister Postman is actually banging bUT ITS NOT EVEN THEIR SONGGG). I think I like The Beatles as the emotionally stunted scouser weirdos they were/are more than I like them as musicians ngl Bright side, it introduced me to the Miracle's original of You've Got a Hold On me which is bangingggg

Survivor by Destiny's Child
Oct 15 2026

First impression: I don't love it, but this album's production is INSANE I can admit So, I've listened to almost an hour of them now. Never really was a big Beyonce fan, RNB/pop in general tbh. A lot of their songs get realllll repetitive after a while but the vocals on this album are insanely good and the songs are very catchy. Apple Pie a la Mode and Independent Women have definitely been standouts for me, otherwise it's mostly just been really catchy rnb pop that blended into the background. Last song was really sweet actually, I liked that one. I'd give this album a 3/5 just because it's really not for me at all but I appreciate what it is

Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
Oct 17 2026

I was not destined to enjoy this album. My ex-friend who was super horrible to me was obsessed with the beach boys so they will forever sound horrible to me
