Illmatic by Nas

Not bad, but not interesting enough for me to come back. i dont even remember a single line

Incredible. It's hard to enjoy the rest of an album when your coming into to only knowing the most famous song from it. But this album manages to introduce itself to mainstream media with Free Bird and still be absolute peak throughout the rest of it. If you enjoy free bird, i can actually recommend the rest of this album, unlike a lot of one-hit-wonders. It also literally taught me how to pronounce the bands name. It also includes one of my favorite live versions of a song, where the guitarist breaks a string mid-solo, repairs it without stopping the rest of the song, and keeps going. Not only is that sick, but its also interesting to hear what's happening in the rest of the band without the solo. Lots of iconic memorable parts besides Free Bird, like 'Gimme Three Steps" or "Simple Man" And i haven't even talked about the star of the show, Free bird. Its such a beautiful progression into the craziest and longest and most singable solo ever. The entire song is basically "here we gooo here comes the solloooo, its comingggg" and then its fucking sick. It's perfectly long without being too boring. It's also the most intense part of the entire mostly chill album, which makes it a sick ending. There's a reason its their most popular song and reached #19 on billboard top 100. I have no idea what's to come in the next 999 albums, but this will be HARD to beat.

Green Onions by Booker T. & The MG's
Oct 21 2026

These songs all sound pretty bland and like they need lyrics. Despite how danceable "I Got A Woman" was, these songs just don't work well as instrumentals in my opinion Even the original songs just lack anything that makes me want to come back and listen again. There's nothing to dance to in them. I don't remember a single melody from this album that was catchy or memorable at all, when i listen to albums there's almost always some part i can remember and go back to and think "that was pretty sick" but this just has nothing for me. If you removed the lyrics from the original songs, i think i would enjoy it more than this, i absolutely hate the sound of the organ. The guitar does sound good though, i enjoy any part with that a lot more than parts with the organ. I'm writing this at song 10 and I'm honestly not sure if i can continue without getting bored, especially because i know these are all just bland covers of songs I've heard already and would enjoy more without this style.

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Oct 22 2026

Just like most of pink floyd, i think the actual songwriting and playing here is incredible, but its just too slow for me to find enjoyable. Not to be one of those people whos like "wahhh the intro is too long so i hate the song" but man some of these songs REALLY drag on. I dont have a lot of time in my day to sit down and intentionally deeply listen to music, so when i spend it listening to a 10 minute pink floyd instrumental, its just not pleasing. Theres definitely some emotion-evoking bangers here though. I cant say a lot about Shine On You Crazy Diamond because i just didnt enjoy that ~25 minute total song that i feel didnt have a lot to it. my favorites were 'Have A Cigar" and 'Wish You Were Here' just because they're short and sweet, which is crazy im calling it that because they're still 2 minutes above the average song length, with a very lengthy solo at the end. Pink Floyd almost always feels like it could be a emotional ending to a movie or something, this is great music if i was like hiking and just had a bunch of time to soak in some cinematic music. I do kind of respect it for not making the vocals a focal-point of every song. Some of these songs make the vocals feel like a surprise instrument solo that adds to the song rather than carrying it. Overall, sounds pretty cool. 'Wish You Were Here' is one of the greatest sounding vocals/lyrics ive ever heard in a song.
