Extraordinary big band/swing album. I love Hefti's arrangements. Both the band as a whole and the soloists are fantastic. If there is one who deserves an extra mention, it's the tenor saxophone player. Disclaimer: I played alto saxophone in a big band for several years, among other pieces some of Hefti's arrangements for Basie. Hence, I might be biased. 😉
Pretty nice and full energy big band album, mostly instrumental. The sound is clear, each instrument at its place and the solos are really good throughout the record. The kind of jazz that makes you in a good mood
Pretty sure I would have heard this growing up as my Dad is a huge jazz fan and likes Count Basie. I did enjoy this one and am looking forward to listening to some more jazz.
Enjoyable big band swing jazz from Count Basie, with a hat tip to Neal Hefti for the arrangements who later went on to write the amazing Batman TV series theme music. There are some nice quirky elements, with whistling and an unusual twanging sort of noise which turned out to be a mouth harp in the background.
Big Band Jazz ohne jeglichen Gesang?
Swing makes my brain itch. Not for me.
I expected to like this. I like jazz and my younger brother is a jazz musician but I sort of nothinged this album it wasn't bad but wasn't good. Just ok background music
Great background soundtrack while working. Doesn't make me wanna go and listen to it again though.
I know next to nothing about swing or big band, but this is a fun, up-beat thing to listen to.
