Great album! I recognized one song. I knew about this band from my dad, but never really listen to it much. This is a great album and I’ll add it to my digital collection. Definitely gonna listen to it again. Cool mood and sound.
I liked this album! I think she has a great voice. Very soothing. I liked the lyrics a lot too. With a few of the songs I felt transported into her world. Great discovery for me, for sure!
This one wasn’t really for me. It’s pretty good if I just want background music when I work or do other things, but I can’t say it that it touched me in any deeper way. There are many other electronic albums that, to me, are way better - even as background music! Maybe it’s an interesting work from a technical standpoint, but that’s about it for me. I didn’t find it exciting or meaningful. Next!
I only knew a couple of songs on this album. "Walking on the Moon" was my favourite track, but I also got a big kick out of "On Any Other Day". Kind of a funny song! Generally I don't listen to this kind of music much, but I think I liked it more than I expected.
Ah, The Beatles! Grew up listening to their music because it's one of my dad's favourite bands. I don't really actively listen to their albums unless I feel nostalgic for the days when I'd be in the car, my dad choosing the music, and doing road trips around Romania and later Canada. I do like The Beatles to some extent. The songs are catchy, pleasant, to me they are kind of happy for the most part because I listen to a lot of music that is darker by comparison. I enjoyed this album. I'm no Beatles expert. I recognized the popular songs, and was glad to hear some that I am not familiar with.
Never heard of Solomon Burke before now. I liked it. Very different from my usual listening.
Just can't relate to this at all. Seems like one of those generic rock bands whose purpose is to embody the average so other bands can be excellent or terrible. If they were interesting at a particular time in history, it is lost upon me today.
Loved it! I only knew his more recent work, but this was also very good.
A surprising discovery for me! After listening to the album of the day, I listen to their latest album, which I also liked, maybe more than the album of the day.
I’ll be honest, I never really liked the sound of their music. It baffles me how they have so many fans. They always sounded like an amateur act from mom’s basement that never got an upgrade.
Another album from the series “this is what my dad was listening to when I was a kid.” I liked it. Not amazing, but pretty relaxing, easy to listen to on the drive home from work. I loved the track Sultans of Swing.
I definitely don’t count myself as as Coldplay fan, but I had a brief period around 2005 when I was into sad indie and emo music and some Coldplay songs got in there too, mainly from the X&Y album. I listened to today’s album. I didn’t mind the trip down memory lane to those days…. Almost 20 years ago apparently! Damn, time flies. Sometimes it’s nice to revisit & discover things that are not on regular rotation. I guess that’s why I like this whole 1001 Albums thing.
This one goes into the special folder (the recycle bin).
Today’s pick for #1001Albums was The Pretenders. I knew just one song from them, but it’s a song I love: Brass in Pocket. Why? Because I love Lost in Translation (the movie) and this song is on that movie’s amazing soundtrack. So, today’s album pick is definitely a win for me, for that song alone.
Not really my cup of tea, but not too bad either. Glad I listened to it and I now know who Yes is.
Great album. Nice jazz to listen to and relax. Loved it!
Some cool sounds. I find it creative, and a couple of the songs I did like. However, overall it was not the kind of music I’ll go back to, or listen again from start to end. An interesting listen overall.
This album makes me sigh. As a heavy metal fan I find myself unable to get into this kind of rock music. It's not metal, it's not punk, what is it? "Hard rock"? "Grunge"? "Alternative" (to what)? I feel like maybe I just missed the memo on this style or rock music. To me the noisy instruments' energy clashes with the vocals. My ears just find this mismatched, if that makes sense. So yeah, this one's a thumbs down for me. It can bug off!
New to me. Awesome discovery!
A nice listen! I enjoyed it. Didn’t know about her until today and I heard about her on the radio this morning and then the album of the day here. Nice, a fellow Canadian 🇨🇦
What an awesome album! I knew a couple of songs off this one but never listened to the entire thing. Glad I did!
