Music From Big Pink
The Band

this is the 1968 release with 11 tracks, not the 2000 reissue nor the 2018 anniversary edition track 1, Tears of Rage: not sure if it was a mixing issue with this digitalization of the track but the volume of a couple of the instruments was louder than the rest. slow and soulful with more tears than rage, not my style but a decent 5.5/10 track 2, To Kingdom Come: yep, definitely something to do with the digitization. maybe splitting it from mono to stereo just made some of the instruments quieter overall? in any case, this track has more cheerful(?) energy to it despite the title being about dying (and going To Kingdom Come). 7/10 track 3, In a Station: well, i certainly feel as bored by this one as much as being in a train station. 5/10 track 4, Caledonia Mission: not a lot of difference to me from the song prior, 5/10 track 5, The Weight: better vibes, but only by a bit. 6.5/10 track 6, We Can Talk: not super distinct from the prior track, 7/10 with the added half point for milking a cow??? track 7, Long Black Veil: hah, he can't admit to not murdering someone because he boned his bff's wife. get adultered, idiot. 7/10 track 8, Chest Fever: this feels like nothing, but it's at least an upbeat nothing! 6.5/10 track 9, Lonesome Suzie: lonesome vibes are accomplished by this song, but it's too slow for me to appreciate them. had to skip forward a little to be able to finish the track, so subtracting half a point - 4.5/10 track 10, This Wheel's on Fire: solid song but nothing too stand-out for me. 6/10 track 11, I Shall Be Released: "i shall be released" - me when i finish this album lmao. while it's another slow song, i do appreciate the piano + acoustic guitar backing. 6/10 overall: 6/10 -> 3/5, but my personal enjoyment of this album was low enough that i'm bumping it to 2/5.
