I don't really like this kind of DIY garage punk. It feels soulless and void of content. The music is passable, but her voice is fucking grating. Maybe it's not something international audiences will understand, but this is the voice of so many absolute bottom-feeding Aussie women it just makes me want to vomit. I get she's doing it semi-ironically, but it's just disgusting. Until you've been abused by a few of these women in regional town pubs for no reason, you might just think it's a quaint, Aussie girl Johnny Rotten impression. But go hang out in the smoking area of a working-class Aussie pub, play the pokies and chat to a few of the seedier-looking people, and all of a sudden this won't seem so endearing and fun. And naturally the Aussie media, the ABC in particular, worships the ground they walk on. Not because the music is any good; the ABC doesn't judge music on how it sounds. They push it because there's a loud, abrasive woman singing, and that will appeal to their preferred customers on an ideological level. And piss conservative types off, who will (rightly, but pointlessly) claim that the ABC/JJJ intentionally pushes shitty music for political reasons. Anyone who just wanted to rock out a bit loses out, sadly. And their taxes have to pay for it to boot. Anyway, this sucks. And so do the Chats. 2/5.
