Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Jan 13 2021

Mother's Little Helper is a solid opener, very catchy. Album is pretty samey throughout though. Liked the acoustic tone in Lady Jane a lot. I was surprised at how much of a old-school country vibe some of these tracks have, with harmonica and acoustic guitar only. And at just how "light" early rock was, with a distinct lack of real lead solos. And how short the tracks are!

Moon Safari by Air
Jan 14 2021

Really not something I'd listen to normally. Kinda ambient, downtempo electronica. First track sounds like a movie OST. Actually makes for great background music while working but nothing really jumps out as something I'd go back to. Last track sounds like a sci-fi alien/robot sex scene.

High Violet by The National
Jan 15 2021

Terrible Love and some other tracks have a really interesting 'raw' feel, very intentionally messy mix with the guitar/bass/percussion. Vocals are baritone 'depressive' Morrissey-style. Overall this style of indie rock reminds me a lot of Kensington/White Lies, but the vocal style and downbeat melodies aren't really my cup of tea. Having said that, Bloodbuzz Ohio is a banger that sounds like a modern Johnny Cash song. Makes sense it's the most popular track from this album!

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
Jan 16 2021

Didn't really know any Bob Dylan, but this was even worse than I expected. Every song sounds the same. Nothing melodically or rhythmically interesting at all, annoying harmonica and dreary vocals.

Clube Da Esquina by Milton Nascimento
Jan 18 2021

Had no idea what to expect from a MPB album, even though I've heard Milton Nascimento's name before. This was actually a really enjoyable listen. Loved the more upbeat tracks and samba rhythm. San Vicente probably my favourite track just for how interesting it is. Maybe it's just because it reminds me of some of the music in Narcos, but I had an odd thought that some of these would make cool background tracks to a Far Cry montage. Go figure.

Moondance by Van Morrison
Jan 19 2021

Perfectly nice folky, bluesy rock. Great vocals. Really liked Into The Mystic, but overall just a bit boring and unremarkable for my taste.

Teenage Head by Flamin' Groovies
Jan 20 2021

Decent garage rock, rock and roll sound, but nothing special or standout. I feel like this genre was out of date even when it was new. Led Zeppelin IV came out the same year and is a million times more interesting.

Treasure by Cocteau Twins
Jan 23 2021

Didn't know Dream Pop was a thing before this! I wanted to like the weird psychedelic vocals and stuff but it ends up just being annoying noise for the most part. Lorelei was cool though.
