Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Jan 15 2021

Favorites: Black Sabbath, Behind the Wall of Sleep, N.I.B, Evil Woman, Wicked World, Warning Recognized as the album that birthed heavy metal. 'Black Sabbath' track is considered to be the first doom metal song.

We Are Family by Sister Sledge
Jan 18 2021

Favorites: He's the Greatest Dancer, We Are Family, Lost in Music, Thinking of You, Easier to Love, One More Time Primarily a back up band, Sister Sledge made a name for themselves with this album. Produced and written by the legendary Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of Chic. There was surprisingly little to no collaboration between Chic and the sisters in the creation of the songs. Nile Rodgers has said it is the best LP he has produced. 'We are Family' track was recorded in one take, with Kathy Sledge not knowing the lyrics ahead of time. Nile Rodgers would feed her one line at a time through headphones to make it sound spontaneous.

Blackstar by David Bowie
Jan 19 2021

Favorites: All David Bowie's last album before his death. He wanted to get as far away from rock and roll as he could, citing Kendrick Lamar's approach to the genre of hip hop on TPAB as inspiration. Features a mix of various styles of jazz, art rock, and experimental rock. Themes of a man wrestling with his mortality, as he made this album while in the final stages of his battle with liver cancer.

Africa Brasil by Jorge Ben Jor
Jan 20 2021

Favorites: Ponta de Lança, Hermes, O Plebeu, Xica, Historian, Africa Brasil One of the greatest Brazilian albums, Jorge blends funk and samba in his career defining album.

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Jan 21 2021

Favorites: All I Really Want, You Oughta Know, Right Through You, You Learn, Head Over Feet, Not the Doctor Third studio album of Morissette, would go on to become one of the best selling albums of all time, even having a Broadway musical made off of it. Critically lauded, it was a significant album in paving the way for early 2000's female singers like Shakira, Pink, Avril Lavigne, and many more. Departure from her previous albums which were more dance pop, this album features a grungy alternative rock sound.

The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lips
Jan 22 2021

Favorites: Race for the Prize, The Spark that Bled, Spiderbite Song, What is the Light, The Gash, Waiting for Superman, Feeling Yourself Disintegrate, Sleeping on the Roof Widely considered to be the one of the greatest albums of the 90's and the Flaming Lips' masterpiece.

Favorites: What's Love Got to Do with It, Show Some Respect, Let's Stay Together, 1984 The fifth solo album by Tina Turner, it was what propelled her into becoming a solo star after several challenging years of going solo after divorcing her husband and performing partner Ike Turner. Her best-selling North American album. Blends sounds from rock, pop, smooth jazz and r&b throughout a mixture of uptempos and ballads.
