Couple awesome tracks, just don't like the cover songs.
Respect the artistry and talent with words but just couldn't get into it.
Sounds like so much elevator music to me.
I'd listened to the first half of this six or more times before trying to get into it so this was the first time all the way to the end. I respect the brilliance on display but it doesn't speak to me. The transparency and self-awareness, the insecurity and feelings of inadequacy underlying so much of his work is interesting to hear him examine, but his coping mechanism, this Trump with musical talent persona he's adopted, is terribly boring.
I know every note of every song having listened to this thousands of times as a young teen. One of the first albums I bought myself or asked for as an Xmas/Bday gift. I remember first seeing it in the window of the record store before getting it and being excited that "my" music was on display, as I loved their 1st two albums. Ultimately, I wasn't ready to follow The Clash all the way through this to Sandinista and love it as much as their earlier stuff. I wanted to love it and pretended at 12 to love it like a 5 star but secretly it was never more than 4.
Respect.
Stuff from my youth.
Noisy.
