Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Elton John
Listened to this (at least the first side) a lot when I was a kid. Never noticed how cooly trippy the cover was. Of course, It's a lot harder to see detail on a heat wrinkled 8-Track. I didn't remember anything between Grey Seal ("Tell-ell me gray sock" I used to say) and Harmony (except the hit). Maybe they put the last song on earlier because of the 8 track format. Or I just really liked the song and played it more.

Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space
Spiritualized
Reminded at times of Dandy Warhols, post-Achtung Baby U2, and Eno. Tried to but didn't buy the cacophanous jams. Proud of myself recognizing Prine reference on closing track. Album was surprisingly symphonic throughout.

Deep Purple In Rock
Deep Purple
No sure if they had more than one hit. Not sure if they are considered acid rock. If this was considered good at the time, it hasn't aged well. Particularly annoying was their coming to a complete stop in the middle (often already 4:00 in) and seem to start over again and add an additional 3 minutes to the song. I wonder if one of their other albums would have been more indicatinve of their good work.

Young Americans
David Bowie
Was a huge fan of this "Plastic Soul" album during my Bowie phase (I spent the lion's share of my graduation gift money on his albums). This one made him something of a favored son in Philly which made it kind of special when I saw him twice there on his "farewell" tour. "They've cleaned up the Italian Market!" he shouted from the stage. Favorite is Win. Cassette flip side was tvc15 I believe.
