It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back
Public Enemy
Not my particular cup of tea, but it is undeniable the impact this album had on hip-pop in the 90s. After one play through, many tracks evoke similarities to other tracks by groups like Kris kross and sir mix a lot. The track "rump shaker" by Wreckx-N-Effect blatantly used the exact same horn line from a public enemy track in their chat topping single.
Ultimately, I likely won't listen to this again, but you can see why it was included in this list. It's not an album that anyone outside of the hip hop will particularly enjoy, but it's a for sure "know your roots" Album for those that flirt with that genre in any capacity.

...Like Clockwork
Queens Of The Stone Age
This album grabbed me on first listen. Definitely an album I will listen to again. Probably a four star album once I've learned a few of the tracks and possibly a five star if they are all really good tracks.

Third
Portishead
This album immediately grabbed my interest right out of the gate. I had listened to tracks from this band from a past album, and the intro track really set my hopes high. Ultimately, there were several tracks that delivered, but what derailed the album for me was that several obnoxious "washing machine" measures were scattered amongst this otherwise hauntingly beautiful album. I would be flowing with the music only to be jarred out of the vibe with the various parts throughout. It may be something that would ease after a few listens, but it cost them a couple of stars after one listen.

I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You
Aretha Franklin
This album is truly a classic. Admittedly, I had never listened to it before. It starts with one of the greatest anthems of all time in RESPECT. I was worried it might fall flat from there, but it did not disappoint. The album was solid all the way through and after one listen convinced me it belongs in my vinyl collection.

Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea
PJ Harvey
This album doesn't make sense to me on this list. It's nondescript and doesn't really stand out musically. Maybe there are some deep lyrics buried in there, but my interest in finding them is low. There were thousands of albums that sounded like this in the late 90's and I'm not sure what made this one stand out enough to make this list.

Everything Must Go
Manic Street Preachers
Not bad. Nothing jumped out as a four or five star song on first listen but it was a sound I would give a few more listens to see if something grew on me.

The Scream
Siouxsie And The Banshees
This album was the first that really conflicted me from a ratings standpoint. It's also the first one that is closer to what I normally listen to. The album itself isn't one I particularly enjoy. It's ok, in general, but not a sound I would listen to much. The conflict comes from the fact that this album was one of the most influential to the punk genre that most of my favorite artists of all time belong to. You can hear the influences that my favorite bands drew on and you can see where this album helped change the world in that way. With that, I gave it one more star than I would have otherwise because I believe this album helped pave the way for the future alternative and punk genres.

Not my preferred style, but not bad. After one listen I didn't hate it and I could see a couple of tracks growing on me. Though I didn't like anything enough to add it to my new music playlist, so three stars at best. Could go up or down with further listens.

I like foreign music, but not enough to listen to entire albums in a sitting. There are some cool grooves here, but not understanding the words leaves it feeling shallow and I feel disconnected.
