This is a great exmample of modern western music. Pulling out all the tricks, this album is filled to the brim with pops and clicks and spare synth noises which gives it a more classic techno sound all while blending some thin melody and a driving bass line though the whole album. The song construction though not the most innovative, does feel like a fresh callback to a style of early Brian Eno, all while bringing that sound into a post EDM world.
Fun classic rock vibes after its "normalization in the latter part of the 20th century, bundled up in the kitschy package that makes it easy to listen too. This was fun for some nostalgic vibes, reminds me a lot of the music in Rocky Horror Picture sow.
This album does a great job of doing varriations on a theme. What some might consider a bit boring, frequently changes up with each song, there is a new variation. Playing to its ol' west music vibe, very much in the spirit of a more traditional country music, it also has nice blend of Spanish style guitar keeping it feeling just bit more fresh than expected.

Holding some of the most powerful and iconic soul tracks of all time its no wonder that this album has massive staying power. Both sonically and socially relevant as the day it produced this album has a though line of soul that you can't help but shout a few bars our yourself.
In terms of dad rock, its hard to go on. This album for me was able to capture the chill vibes and authentic sounds that dad rock usually looks achieve and this album does it wonderfully. I has its roots firmly in the psych genre without being too produced and it really leans into the folksy tones that helped produce the genre.
It was a fine slice of Americana and certainly understand why it is on the list. Having said that, I think it was just ok. The singer songwriter trope is evergreen but Randy Newman's take feels a bit stale.
Great chill singer songwriter vibes. A classic by all accounts. Awesome for a chill morning jam.
