1001 Albums Summary

Why are their songs so...repetitive? It’s fine. One song I really liked - “Friend of the Devil”. This is kind of like Christian music without the Christians. On the plus side - Grateful Dead don’t suck as much as I assumed they do.

Good one - lot of classics here, plus a song about South of the Border?

Love it - sound like they definitely influenced Conor Oberst.

Not bad. Not the best Bowie.

Interesting. From the viewpoint of the listener the character in some of these songs is a real asshole. Some are short and meant to be profound, but there isn’t a thread that really ties them together. Plus a song about Van Gogh - again, meant to be deep like the singer has an understanding the rest of us don’t. Not a bad album altogether but I can’t shake the feeling that this is a painter who ended up writing songs.

Some classics on here, mixed with great songs you’ll swear you’ve heard a thousand times. You can hear the direction guitar music would take in the 90s start here. Great vocals with some complex shifts and melodies.

Eminem was nuts when he first debuted. Nothing like it at the time. Some great songs on here, along with some meh. Too long but still pretty great.

Classic. Kinda rocky first half after a couple of hits, but amazing back half. Surprised some of these well known songs came from this album.

I keep trying to like Elvis Costello, because people say they like Elvis Costello. Maybe he’s like, a really good dude. Musically though - sucks. Instrumentation was pretty good but lyrics and vocals were… not. I just don’t get it. Every song sounded like the theme for a shitty 90s sitcom.
