The Gershwin Songbook
Ella FitzgeraldElla's voice is amazing and I love Gershwin's compositions so the combination is magical. The songs do start to meld a bit after hour 2, which is why the full album is bumped down from 5 to 4 stars.

Janis's voice is so distinctive, and she sings with so much soul and emotion. I don't intentionally listen to blues very often, but I enjoyed the entire album from beginning to the end. Favourite songs: Cry Baby, A Woman Left Lonely, Mercedes Benz
Quintessential 80s sound, classic pop-rock. Album was easy to listen to with a slight melancholic vibe at times. Songs are cohesive but nothing particularly stands out for me (I do like Your Latest Trick and Money for Nothing). I think this is the type of album that would grow on me after several re-listens.
What a live album - the screaming fans (especially well timed in Lost Someone), the influence it's had on other artists and albums, and the energy coming from the band and Brown makes this album a 5 star. It's too bad I'm not a big fan of funk - which pushes my personal rating down to 4. I appreciate the historical significance and love how it captures the screaming crowds and the energy of a live show ; but I probably wouldn't listen to it over and over again.
Dark, industrial, raw. A bit weird and experimental with the synths. It's not my style of music, so but I appreciate the influence and legacy this particular album has had on other post punk rock bands. Favourite songs: Dum Dum boys, China girl
Funky and smooth. I love the hi-hats, the jazz, the strings. Overall, most of the album is better suited for background listening (which makes sense given that it's a movie soundtrack), but there are a couple tracks that really make my head bop. Favourites: Theme from Shaft, Ellie's Love Theme, Do Your Thing, Soulsville
A lot of short little tracks, I think I'd enjoy this more if I had watched the show beforehand or read up on the plot synopsis. As it is, it's an okay listen but I didn't connect very well to the music. Favourites: Pinball Wizard, Go to the Mirror
