KIWANUKA
Michael KiwanukaVERY pleasantly surprised by this album, wow! I thoroughly enjoyed this entire album, and have never heard of this artist, nor was it a genre I expected to enjoy this much.

How have I never heard of this group or this album??? Like WHAT this feels like such an important album to be introduced to for anyone into rap, hip-hop, beats, scratching, etc. My main gripe with the album, hence the 4 star instead of 5, is that it feels like sometimes the mixing isn't great, where I wish I could hear the vocals more but they're covered by the beat. But I guess that actually kinda makes sense because I have the feeling that a majority of the usage of this album was on vinyls and people using the tracks to scratch to and grab instrumentals/samples from. Also, idk if it's just me but I feel like this album had a huge influence on Donald Glover when he was creating This is America. A lot of the album gave off the vibes of the instrumentals and chanting of This is America, especially Give A Man A Fish.
ROCKBAND. Rush wasn't one of the old rock groups my dad raised me on (Journey, Ozzy, Cheap Trick, etc.), but I knew Tom Sawyer and YYZ from Rockband and love those songs. Honestly the rest of the album was really good as well, imo it was really clear that this album (and Rush in general) definitely influenced rock and other genres of music, really interesting to hear such an iconic album for the first time and hear things (guitar tones, musical sequences and patterns, etc.) that I've 100% heard in other, more recent music.

This album hit different. I really, really enjoyed this entire album. It's got that 'timeless classic' sound to it, the light drums, the completely clean guitar tones, the angelic vocals, it's like a female version of Bread (I hope to god an album by Bread comes up on this someday LOL). Not only that, but it also sounds like she may have had a ton of impact on other artists. I can't think of any specific examples off the top of my head, but certain things here and there in some of the songs just sound so familiar, as if you've heard it before, but you've probably just heard a song that was heavily influenced by Joni Mitchell.
Very '90s and '00s radio vibes on some of the songs. Very... uh... wtf is going on vibes on some of the others... LOL. Like I completely understand the 'musical art' of the album, but idk if those tracks are for me. There were definitely some songs that I really enjoyed to be fair, but the album as a whole probably not for me.
Simply put, it's a classic album by one of the world's greatest artists. Pretty much have to give it five stars, although it may be a little biased because I grew up listening to Stevie Wonder.
I just can't do it. I am so sorry. I've tried so many times in my life to give country a try, but I just can't do it. I truly do not enjoy it. Honestly, I can tell this is really what classic country sounds like, and I'm sure a country fan would love the album, but it's not for me. I listened to the first two songs in full, then skimmed through the rest and every song sounded exactly the same except Mary's Mine and Skid Row switched up the pace a little bit with how they sounded.
Not as country of an album, very bluesy combined with that country feel. I can tell it's a great album, but this is still not really for me.
Classic, soothing Simon & Garfunkel, not much to say here. It's great music, but it's not on repeat for me.
Feel like I have to rate this highly purely because of the name of The Band lol. But honestly, considering how old this album is and how it's not a genre I'd usually find myself listening to, I enjoyed it, it was nice.
I mean it's the Kinks. It's like rating a Beatles album, it's kinda rude to give anything less than 4 stars considering how influential and movement-starting these albums are.
