This album did nothing for me. Each song sounded similar to the rest and thinking back I can't remember a single song, line, or riff that stood out and caught my attention. It was peaceful background noise, so I would listen to this if I was trying to relax and wanted some white noise.
This album sounds like what would happen if you smashed the sound of the Decemberists up with Sesame Street lyrics. While the subjects of the songs are for mature audiences, the writing is hard to take seriously. I enjoyed the noise of it.
Ray Charles is timeless and classic. A great listen, but listening to this album in its entirety I realized most of his songs follow the same "I love you, you hurt me" motif and generally have the same sound and feel. The man definitely knew what he was about.
This album gave me Porcupine Tree vibes. Each song felt like it was performed by a completely different band. While I didn't always care for the lyrics, the tunes were very chill.
This was just not for me.
