1001 Albums Summary

This album is a user submission, but frankly: I've heard much, much worse among the albums that are on the official list. While the album doesn't blow me away completely, it's something I've missed much too often in the list proper: discovering interesting stuff that was not hyped by the music critics or charts. In that, it succeeds. Well done. 3.5/5

I never could warm-up to Animals, even though I generally admire Pink Floyd. But for me, this just sits between Wish You Were Here and The Wall, without reaching the greatness of either. Today I tried again, with the same result. The album is bookended by Pigs on the Wing 1 and 2, which, while nice enough, do absolutely nothing for me apart from being the album opener/closer. Dogs just chugs along with Waters writing in automatic mode; Sheep is little better. Which leaves Pigs(Three Different Ones). This one, for me, is by far the best track of the album; generating atmosphere and melody absent from all the other tracks. That one I just put on my Liked Songs playlist, but one 11:26 tracks does not an album make. At least not a great one. 3/5

Not sure if I'd picked that particular album, as it sounds like derivative Indie Rock to my ears. The constant gloomy tempo doesn't help. But to each their own. As for me .... 2.5/5
