Animals was not on the original list??? WTF. Amazing album. Some of Gilmour's best guitar work. 5 stars.

Animals is the tenth studio album by the English rock band Pink Floyd, released on 21 January 1977, by Harvest Records and Columbia Records. Pink Floyd produced it at their new studio, Britannia Row Studios, in London throughout 1976. The album continued the long-form compositions that made up such previous works as Meddle (1971) and Wish You Were Here (1975). A lyrical departure from Pink Floyd's previous albums, Animals is a concept album that focuses on the sociopolitical conditions of mid-1970s Britain. Tension within the band during production culminated in the firing of the keyboardist, Richard Wright, two years after the album's release. The cover, conceived by the bassist and lead songwriter, Roger Waters, and designed by their long-time collaborator Storm Thorgerson, shows an inflatable pig floating between two chimneys of Battersea Power Station. Pink Floyd released no singles from Animals but promoted it through the In the Flesh tour. Waters' agitation with audiences during this tour inspired their next album, The Wall (1979). Animals reached number 2 in the UK and number 3 in the US. It initially received mixed reviews, but gained more favourable reviews in later years, and is considered one of Pink Floyd's best works.

Excellent choice. Not one that immediately comes to mind when I think of Pink Floyd, but highly listenable and with a well-executed concept. A somewhat self-indulgent use of spacey keyboards and studio effects wears thin at points, but there's a lot to enjoy here. Uneasy and cynical, but fascinating stuff. Fave Songs: Pigs (Three Different Ones), Dogs
lol, adding a Pink Floyd album to the user list. All the music in the world to choose from, and you pick a band that had FOUR albums in the book. 2/5.
Not as good as Wish You Were Here, but this is my vote for second-best Floyd album of the 70s.
Though i don't think Roger's writing & delivery is as consistent and interesting as other Pink Floyd releases in this time period, this is still a great album and it is deep enough to submerge yourself in a real energy. The guitar work is fabulous and catchy, and there are enough moments where it all shines brightly together.
I love all iterations of Pink Floyd equally, be it prog or art or psych. I guess I’m just a fanboy. But this album is my favorite. Not necessarily their best, but my favorite. It soars the highest and speaks most profoundly to me, detailing in such frightening and beautiful clarity the dark heart of man, and how that darkness only increases when systematized. Unlike the ending of Animal Farm, however, this album ends with a glimmer of hope: “you know that I care what happens to you, and I know that you care for me, too.”
A classic, by a band with plenty of albums on the list, but this is probably the best of their work that isn't already there
Terrific album!
If I were to note a missing Pink Floyd album from the list so far, it would have been this one. My older brother had this one (as well as Dark Side of the Moon), and I was fascinated by the cover. I assumed for a long time that it was a painting of an imaginary place. My jaw dropped the first time I saw a picture of the real thing in London. Despite that, I wasn't so in to the music of it at the time, as I was 9, and nothing here is as catchy as "Money." Still, there is a lot I really like about this album these days, and it was so good to fill in this gap.
This, Meddle, and Saucerful of Secrets could all easily have their rightful place on the list.
Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Dogs, Sheep
Pigs, Dogs, Sheep... It's really a classic but not quite as good as the two preceding albums (Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here). But it is still a great listen. 4.5/5
Good ol' Pink Floyd. Nothing too special
Not their most popular or their best but one of the best prog rock bands of all time do what they do best here with great guitar work, slow deep rhythms and fantastic lyrics that bring it all together. Hard not to enjoy a great album from one of the best bands. 8.4/10
Not as immediate or striking as other Floyd LPs, but still an immaculately-instrumented album with technical prowess to spare. The symbolism does seem a bit on the nose, but with musicianship this good I don't particularly care.
As Pink Floyd (who I like) goes I feel like this is one of their lighter-weight entries, though it certainly has its moments.
Rock progresivo. Ni fu ni fa.
I like dogs
A-okay background music
Technically good but does nothing for me perhaps it's too perfect. Rating: 2.5 Playlist track: Pigs On The Wing1 Date listened: 12/12/24
For my taste, it was too experimental to be Pink Floyd. It worked in the background while I was doing other activities, but that made it go almost unnoticed.
Pretentious shite.
