I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You
Aretha Franklin
A Classic Soul Album with a classic voice and classic songs. What more can I say? This is "The Queen of Soul" at her finest.

Beck
Beck's 5th studio album was in my opinion his best. It encompasses many styles of music and is a joy to listen to. Easily one of my top 20 albums of the 1990's.It’s chaotic, eclectic, inspired, and occasionally lucid and beautiful.Rap, grunge, blues, folk and country, garage, rock, electro, exotica, old-and pinches of noise rock are the ingredients that make this album into one beautiful big mix of magic.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
The Smashing Pumpkins
Featuring 28 songs and a duration of over two hours this sure is an epic album. Back in the day I did prefer the grunge (just a misspelling of punk) songs. Over 25 years on I now prefer the more melodic songs. It is certainly one of he most definitive alt-rock album of the 90's if not ever. Had I been a teenager in the 90's I would have been boring all my friends about how wonderful this was.

Janis Joplin
There is no doubting Janis Joplin's vocal talents but I feel it was a shame she never got the time to write more of her own songs. For this album to have been released a few months after her death containing the song Mercedes Benz which she only recorded 3 days prior to her death is nothing short of a travisty. I have watched a few documentaries about her short life and I do feel this album could have been somewhat better but for her untimely death. She certainly was a force of nature and her vocal range was astounding. I enjoyed this album from an historic experience. What a chanter!

Hip Hop it dont stop!
This may have been ground breaking back in the day but I was more into Grand Master Flash or Afrika Bombaataa(Party People) then Public Enemy.
I prefered the funkier sound of hip hop.
I do think listening today this album comes across a bit dated obviously due to the technology available at the time.
There is no doubt though that Jam Master Jay was a talented DJ and there is a few stand out tracks namely the singles Rock Box, Hard Time and of course Its Like That.
Ground breaking but now in 2022 I dont think its timeless.

Winter In America
Gil Scott-Heron
Its emotional and political. Gil and Brian used their art and their talents as an extension of the community, to reflect the mood, the sensitivity, the circumstance of the community and America at that time. The wo derful "The Bottle" did unfortunately become a self fullfilling prophesy for Gil Scott Heron and I also believe H20gate Blues is as much about the politics of America today as it was nearly 50 years ago. Now on to listen to another two of his tremendous albums Pieces of a Man and Free Will. Gil Scott Heron is forever in my heart.

The Man Who
Travis
I bought this album in 1999 along with another 3,000,000 folk. I love the melancholy of it all.If you have never listened to this album in entirety then give it a try you may be suprised. There is a heavy gloom that lingers over the songs, which gives the soft melodies and sympathetic performances some real weight. These songs will sink into your heart and find a home in your head.

Ritual De Lo Habitual
Jane's Addiction
In 1990 Jane's Addiction were never on my radar. More James, Happy Mondays, Cocteau Twins, The Breeders, Public Enemy etc.
As a first listen it was interesting there is a lot to take in.The album blends funk, psychedelic and prog rock into an alternative rock and metal sound and they pull it off quite well. Three Days is an epic song and I did prefer the second half of the album from their well known hit 'Been Caught Stealing'. The violin on "Of Course" is just genius.

Something Else By The Kinks
The Kinks
This album is full of nice songs and there is no doubt Ray Davies is a great songwriter.
David Watts and Waterloo Sunset are the most well known songs. My fav track has to be Lazy Old Sun. Never listened to a lot of Kinks in the past but obviously know a lot of their hits. As an album a whole it was very 60s sound. I can hear how they influenced many bands after this.
Im sure its not their greatest album and I do want to investigate them further.
One of my fav Kinks songs is called "Celluloid Heroes.

Fifth Dimension
The Byrds
The is a little sugar on this album and thats Eight Miles High which is a track you need to here before you die. The rest of the album is very dated and at times drags you down a folksy psychedelic black hole. I also like the Trad Scots/Irish song Wild Mountain Thyme but it is not as well done as The Silencers or Corries versions. Also Hey Joe is Naw Joe!
My least fav to date

Rust Never Sleeps
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Neil Young can outwrite, outsing, outplay, outthink, outfeel anyone in my mind. This album was,is and will always be stunning.
Dividing the record into half acoustic/half electric is marvellous. From "My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)" (repeated in an electric version at the album's end as "Hey Hey, My My [Into the Black]" with its altered lyrics, and everything in-between this is just an album of substance and the work of a man at the top of his game.

Parallel Lines
Blondie
Well I had her posters on my wall and the grooves of this record were worn. I thought it was me she loved. What a wonderful album. Blondie is a legend and all the female singers who have tried to emulate her haven't even come close.

PJ Harvey
This album is exhilarating and beautiful. The songs drop like boulders from the sky. For a debut album it surely is acut above. At the time I remember thinking "Oh this sounds interesting". 30 years on this record is still startling and it would be easy to say if this was being released right now it would be still as fresh as the day it was pressed.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs
This album was a descent album but there are no real standout tracks on it. There is good musicianship and the music is unoffensive. Will it be a classic in 20 years. I really dont think so.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Beatles
A decent album that is renowned for its greatness. At times I just dont get the Beatles and really dont see what all the fuss was about. They have better albums. The time they had to priduce this and also the money behind it allowed them the luxury that many bands dont have. Taking that into account is it that great an album it is made out to be.
